210. That is the daily average of COVID cases in Saskatchewan as of yesterday. That is concerning. So with 100% transparency, we are trying to balance the safety of our staff and of the community with the need to stay open and continue our community development work. And we want to stay open. With that being said, we are reinforcing current protocols and introducing new measures. ... 1. NEW maximum number of people in our space is reduced to 6. If you need our support and have the ability to phone in or use video conferencing such as zoom we ask you to do so. This keeps the space available for those who need it. 2. Masks are to be worn PROPERLY at all times. Staff will repeatedly ask you to adjust your mask if needed. We will provide you a mask if you do not have one. 3. Our doors remain locked and you will need to ring the door bell for access. At that point we will ask you COVID related questions and provide you with hand sanitizer. 4. Please know that ALL surfaces are thoroughly sanitized after use. COVID precautions, we are doing it. And we need you to do it too. #COVID19SK

There is a gap in permanent housing for singles. Approximately 40% of the applications Quint receives for our affordable rentals are for 1 bedroom/bachelor units. With a 10% vacancy rate for these units, for every 40 applications Quint receives we are able to house 1 individual. The government has identified that if you are paying more than 30% of your income on housing, it is not affordable. On average, a single person working full time on minimum wage, has to put 47% of th...eir wage towards a singular unit rental, and over 78% if they are on assistance. The disparity between singular incomes and rental prices, as well as suitable inventory needs to be addressed. It is time to be innovative! There cannot be a blanket response, we need to implement creative strategies that can be adaptable to meet individual need. Things to consider: A rental supplement for people and families with a rent to income ratio that is currently not affordable; Emergency rental support dollars that can be accessed by people who have fallen behind; Financial support for housing providers to adequately support high risk tenants to secure and maintain housing; Incentives for landlords to keep rent affordable. On National Housing Day, we call upon the government to address the current housing inventory and the affordability gap between singular units and a single income. This is the longest I’ve ever lived in one place Quint Tenant Many of Quint's tenant families have never lived in a single place for over a year. They continually move due to inadequate housing, poor quality housing or for making bad personal choices. This cycle of transiency has a devastating impact on families and is detrimental to the community. Read about how Quint’s Affordable Housing Program works hard to break that cycle of transiency and replace it with stability... on our blog: https://quintsaskatoon.ca//disrupting-the-cycle-of-transi/ #NationalHousingDay #AffordableRentals #HousingStability

#NationalHousingDay is November 22nd. The pandemic has added another layer of hardship in achieving equitable housing and we need to reflect on the critical work that still needs to be done to confront these issues. There is no greater time than the present to ensure housing stability for everyone in our community.
