Look how fast garlic is growing! The wood frogs are awake, the garlic is up and green, and soon the lake will unfreeze so I can kayak to school. This is happiness...

Best birthday present ever...a day of uncovering our red Russian garlic from its bed of straw.

I might have forgotten about my last bag of potatoes...but we try not to waste anything! Surprisingly they made a wonderful potatoe bacon chowder, and we devoured them with some homemade bread. The chickens were not quite sure what to do with the tops though!

I found dinosaur tracks!!! I love it when spring comes around and my chickens can range free again...up to 11 eggs a day now. Not bad for my 13 girls.

Perhaps I should be a potato farmer as well?

Garlic is planted! We still feel a bit late getting it in the ground this year, but the season has been so unpredictable we banked on being a bit later vs. being too early. With a small farm it is harder to rotate our crops while still maintaining our stock, but in order to maintain our soil's health we had to plant less garlic this year. Next year we will be offering more Brassicas as we rotate our beds.

These cloves are from 1 year ago! They might not be perfect, and maybe we were just lucky, but when stored correctly properly cured hardneck garlic can last a long time. Today these 4 Red Russian cloves become a key ingredient to our harvest carrot soup!

We have been too busy to showcase our other veggies but last night I decided to bring in what what was ripe, just in case the frost blankets were not enough. 25 pounds of tomatoes and peppers! This is today's salsa mix, minus the herbs that are still in the garden. Understandably the peppers pouted all season, and without supplemental heat in the greenhouse they grew but were drastically stunted. Hopefully this week of upcoming sunshine will help set the last of our tomatoes!
