Local fans may have experienced deja vu as they watched last night's World Junior Hockey gold-medal game between USA-Canada. Ten players in uniform last night - five from each team - competed at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge at the qplex and TD Station in November 2018. Expect to see even more familiar faces at next year's tournament.

The Town of Quispamsis is grateful for the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Sport Relief Grant. This generous assistance has allowed the Town to offer public skating at its qplex facility during the Orange and Yellow phases of the Government of New Brunswick’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan. The provincial government requires contact tracing information be maintained by the Town for people who are skating at the qplex. Thanks to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Sport Relief Grant, the Town p...urchased an access-card system to allow people to participate in public skating and use the indoor walking track. Every individual member of a family bubble is issued their own personal access card to ensure accurate contact tracing. The sign-up process is fast and efficient. This confidential information, which is held by the Town, would only be shared with New Brunswick Public Health in the event of possible exposure to COVID-19. The Town’s Community Services Department is a proud proponent of active living. Prior to the pandemic, the qplex was open year-round, and public skating was offered in the summer months, too. The qplex was closed for six months in 2020, making the popular pastime unavailable for our residents. The numbers prove people were eager to lace up the blades once again. Our skating sessions have been wildly popular, said Meryl Coes, one of the staff members who greets the public and disseminates their information before issuing their access card. We have reached our maximum capacity at every public skate since the card program was introduced. Without the Jumpstart grant, the Town would have no way to meet the government’s requirements for contact tracing and public skating would not be available. As we emerge from these challenging times, return to play is more important than ever, said Dana Purton Dickson, Director of Community Services for the Town of Quispamsis. Along with Jumpstart, we understand the role sports play in the health and well-being of kids and families, and we are doing everything possible to allow community activities to continue. We are most appreciative of the support. For more information on how to obtain your access card, please call the administration office weekdays between 8 am - 4:30 pm. See more

The annual Kennebecasis Valley Remembrance Day ceremony at the qplex has been cancelled due to COVID-19. More than 1,500 people have gathered for the ceremony every November since it was first moved indoors in 2013, but physical-distancing requirements and a ban on large gatherings, due to the pandemic, make it impossible to hold a traditional ceremony this year. We encourage people to honour Remembrance Day and our veterans in their own private way, said Heather McClintock of Royal Canadian Legion Kennebecasis Branch #58. The sacrifices that were made for our country still deserve to be recognized. Anyone looking to support the Legion should call 847-5146.

For up-to-date accurate information on COVID-19, please visit either: https://www.canada.ca//2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.ht https://www2.gnb.ca//content/respiratory_/coronavirus.html Proper and frequent hand washing is the key to preventing the spread of COVID-19. Your hands touch many surfaces in the run of a day. A wide variety of activities, including personal hygiene, food preparation, and house-cleaning, can result in bacteria and viruses collecting on fingers and palms. Hand washing is vitally important. To wash your hands properly, follow these steps: Wet your hands and apply liquid soap or clean bar soap Rub your hands vigorously together, scrubbing all skin surfaces Pay special attention to the areas around your nails and between your fingers Continue scrubbing for at least twenty seconds Rinse your hands and dry them well
