Yesterday our team travelled to Cornwall, ON to visit ZipGrow Inc., the designer and manufacturer of what is currently the world’s most-installed hydroponic vertical farming system. We had a blast touring their facility, learning about their technology, and sampling some of their (delicious) produce. Thank you to the whole ZipGrow team for having us!

An early-stage schematic of our proposed aeroponic farm, developed using Microsoft Visio. Aeroponics is a cultivation method in which nutrients are dissolved in water and misted directly onto roots via spray nozzles. Crops rest on a thin, porous substrate, through which their roots dangle in a basin below. Requiring no soil, this approach allows the grower near-complete control over the specific nutrient mix a plant receives. Proportionally speaking, aeroponic farming uses u...p to 95% less water than conventional agriculture. Currently in our R&D phase, this design will undergo several further iterations before being ready for prototyping. We plan to begin prototype construction by March 2020.
