The power of interpersonal conflict in the workplace is very real. On the surface it ruins relationships, reduces productivity, and creates havoc with business results. At a much deeper level it impacts the core of who we are, the very substance of our being. Navigating this territory is not easy, or comfortable, and yet it is important work that has to done for everyone’s sake. Having worked for over a decade in this arena, I offer the following ideas for leaders who are s...truggling: 1. Take the individuals to a neutral place off- site 2. Work with them to create a mutually safe space in which the work can unfold 3. Use simple tools to create a common language, and understanding of needs, stressors, and drivers in life and he workplace 4. Use approaches that allow everyone to have a voice and be heard 5. Hang in there when it gets uncomfortable because it will! 6.Don’t be afraid of silence, amazing things come out of space 7. Engage people in building a simple plan for moving forward 8. Commit to follow up Remember it is a process, the issue didn’t happen overnight and like any dis-ease, it will take time to heal.
