Online ceremonies have been created to watch and participate in. COVID-19 will be keeping us all apart today, but together as one community, and valley we need to take the time to remember. Please take the time today and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and for those men and women who continue to serve our country today.

Good morning everyone. For those that are interested, the RCL Branch # 71 Windermere District will be airing a live stream of today's Remembrance Day ceremony in Invermere. As with many events, COVID-19 has moved this ceremony to an online gathering. As per the Legion's page, the parade starts at 10:50am moving towards the cenotaph. This is the web link here to watch the stream: RCL Branch # 71 Windermere District... If you are having trouble viewing that, please try "Invermere, B.C. Events" page on Facebook.

Hello everyone. We have a community update to share from Mayor Clara Reinhardt. After careful consideration and review of current Government of BC Covid-19 protocols, Council has determined that we must cancel the Village New Year’s Eve/Birthday party celebrations for 2020, including the fireworks display. The real pinch point was that there was no way we could keep to fewer than 50 people at any given time participating in an event created by us. We encourage families to use... the sliding hill, rink and playground while maintaining good distancing and staying within your bubbles. The fire department has also advised that the annual children’s Christmas party is cancelled. However, there are plans still for the festive fire truck to make its rounds on Christmas Eve. This will be a no contact event. Stay tuned to the fire department’s Facebook page for further information as Christmas Eve approaches. With luck, our events will be back in 2021 bigger and better than ever! Clara Reinhardt Mayor

Hello everyone and happy Monday! Brrrr it’s been a cold week, we hope you are staying warm and safe in your homes. We haven’t posted in a while so we thought we would share a memory of a slightly happier time before the pandemic. ... This time last year, we celebrated seven members for their long standing service to the Village of Radium Hot Springs’ Fire Department. Since this photo was taken last year, these members have jointly volunteered more than 110 years of service to the Village of Radium and our response area. We are also very thankful to both the new members who have recently stepped forward to serve our community and members who are working towards their own long standing service awards. If you’re interested in joining the Fire Department we meet every Monday at 7 p.m. Contact the Radium Village office at 250-347-6455 and leave a message for Chief Dixon.

Good morning eveyone! Last Monday night’s practice was a rope refresher for everyone. Training Officer Trevor Carr led a group through various knot tying techniques and members practiced with hoisting various tools. Captain Nick Brough and another member removed our old rescue ropes as they have aged out of service. Rescue ropes have a 10 year life span and need to be removed from service after that time frame. He also completed an inventory of our rope rescue equipment.

Good morning everyone and happy Friday! The weather is getting cooler, and if you burn wood to keep your house warm over the winter months having your chimney serviced before hand is a good idea. Look into an reputable service technician, and keep your home warm and safe this coming winter. #FirePreventionWeek

Good morning everyone! Today we’re going to share some information on fire extinguishers for #FirePreventionWeek Fire extinguishers should be easily accessible, and stored in a secure location; mounted to a wall or in a cabinet. ... Make sure to check the pressure on the extinguisher to ensure it’s still primed, and at least every month flip it up and down to loosen the extinguishing material inside. If the fire is too big to extinguish yourself, get yourself to safety and call 9-1-1!

Continuing with #FirePreventionWeek, let’s talk about a device that’s in your home, smoke detectors. Smoke detectors should be on every level of your home, and at the very least outside each bedroom! ... Check them often! At least monthly. It’s beneficial to have them interconnected too so if one sounds off, they all do! Lastly, replace them every 10 years!
