Yayyyyyy! Spring and seeds and gardens and land connections are coming, in abundance! Rad Kids is participating in Seedy Saturday next weekend- my workshop is from 10:15-11:00, for kids of all ages. Hope to see you there!

Andree Thorpe is a wonderful friend and ally to farmers. Not only has she been absolutely over-the-top generous to Rad Kids Farm Camp through her documentary photography and doing photography workshops with children, she also photographs farmers at work at various local veggie and animal operations. One of her goals is to encourage more people to support small farms and young farmers, and encourage a future with more people growing their own food. She is printing her new book, Fields of Hope, and looking to raise funds for the printing- she will be donating 100% of the sales income to young farmers. If you can donate to the printing costs, please do.

One thing that was really exciting for me this spring was getting to interview some people (that I idolize) about my favourite subject, farm-based education. I spoke to Karen Campbell from Everdale, Jen Rashleigh from Farmers on 57th, Patty Milligan from Northlands, and Sanjana Tarranum from Roots to Harvest, and they identified recommendations, barriers, programming and content ideas, and more- which I used to write a report for organizations and groups looking to create or ...expand on farm-based education projects. I long to see a world with more people connecting to land, plants, animals, and one another. I hope that farm-based education projects can spring up and/or continue to grow by learning from the knowledge and experiences that these contributors were generous enough to share with me. I recently was part of creating a podcast for the National Farmers Union Ontario Local Food Advocates Project. If you are a teacher looking for ways to bring food and farm into the classroom, this one is for you! Please have a listen and share in your own communities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCMi1cHynUs

Farm Camp won't be running in 2018 as Marie will be on maternity leave. Rad Kids will return with more sessions where kids can consider chamomile up close (aka Farm Camp) in 2019! Photo credit to Andree Thorpe!

Marie from Rad Kids will be working one of the stations at this fun event. If you need a plan for when you're going to get your pumpkins, this could be the answer!

Rad Kids Farm Camp's first week this year was a lovely time! We had superb weather, great kids, and awesome programming (if I do say so myself). Check out this slideshow of the kids' perspectives of camp through photography. Our amazing photographer Andree Thorpe worked with the kids every day to take deliberate shots with cameras she loaned to them, and at the end of the week she curated the best shots to tell the story of the session. A huge thank you to Andree Thorpe, Root Radical CSA, Doublejay Farms, and our guests presenting workshops from herbalism (Jane Applesauce) to beekeeping (Gord Campbell). Looking forward to tomorrow, as we'll be starting up a new session with a fresh batch of kids! https://youtu.be/ZiQFg54VjtI

The wonderful family farm that hosts Rad Kids Farm Camp includes two operations, Doublejay Farms and Root Radical CSA. Root Radical is a 200-member CSA run on ethical principles and using agroecological methods. These lovely people have loads of experience providing delicious food to Kingston communities, as they started interning on other farms, and now have run Root Radical for 10 years! They have just a few spots left in their CSA for 2017. Pay for a share on a sliding scale now to receive a weekly basket of food fresh from the farm-- and the best part is, you no longer have to wait for it as harvest starts this week!! #10radyears
