Here is Motivation Secret No. 2: Quit Tomorrow. If you’re struggling with your nutrition and/or fitness goals today, feel free to quit. Just do it tomorrow. Working on our goals is an intensive process. At times, it’s really hard. Hard to do another interval, hard to pass on dessert, hard to eat more veggies. You think: It’s too hard, it really doesn’t matter, who cares? But at this very moment you need to tell yourself. Hey self, finish the work today, and you can... quit tomorrow. Of course, at the end of the day, we look back and realize it wasn’t so bad and feel good about our decision to continue, maybe even a little smug. And when tomorrow comes, you don’t even think about quitting since you got through yesterday. You’re now stronger mentally and increased the likelihood of pushing through again. So, quit tomorrow..but you probably won’t.

MOTIVATION SECRETS: Over the next week, I will be posting 4 motivation secrets to help you get back on track. For many a healthy lifestyle feels unusually hard right now. Motivation Secret No. 1: DEFINE YOUR DEEP REASON: Ask yourself: Why am I doing this? Why am I really doing this? Finding your deep reason creates the will to keep going, no matter what. If you can identify your real reason, motivation will follow. Think back to a time when you completed something r...eally hard and had times that you wanted to quit. Ask yourself: Why didn’t I quit? There was probably a deep reason that you continued when you didn’t feel like it. Perhaps it was the finishing medal at the end of your first marathon, perhaps it was lower LDL cholesterol levels, perhaps it was an image of yourself feeling fit, strong, and confident at an upcoming event. What matters is that you identify it and keep it in mind when the going gets tough. So you can keep going.

Anyone who has worked with me to improve nutrition or fitness knows the power of developing good habits. Any action practiced on a regular basis can become a habit. Unhealthy actions repeated over time create bad habits, and conversely, good habits repeated over time create good habits. Below is a quote I discovered today and would like to share it. Be healthy and be safe. Albert Gray, a life insurance executive at Prudential, discussing the importance of habits in the 1...940s: "Every single qualification for success is acquired through habit. People form habits and habits form futures. If you do not deliberately form good habits, then unconsciously you will form bad ones. You are the kind of person you are because you have formed the habit of being that kind of person, and the only way you can change is through habit." During these challenging times when our routines are turned upside down, it is even harder to keep on track with our fitness and nutrition habits. When you are struggling, remember your Why. Why you started your journey in the first place. Remembering your Why can keep you centered. Show up every day and the rest will follow.
