Half of the calves represented in this plastic bag are sired by Top Dollar Angus sire, Sydgen Enhance, whose current $Beef index is a whopping $200 (top 1%). The other half are by an older Angus bull with a $Beef index of $94. Wow! That is more than a $100 per head difference in projected progeny value! All of these calves are out of F1 black baldy females, so large differences in Igenity Beef 1-10 scores between the two sire groups are a near certainty. It’s going to be very educational to say the least! We appreciate our research-minded friend Mike John from Huntsville, Missouri, who was willing to use a portion of his cowherd to make this important genetic comparison. Breeding valuable beef cattle has become much easier and faster with the tools we have available today. EPDs, $Indexes and DNA testing have become indispensable to making lasting genetic progress.
