This year, there has been an abundance of zucchini. Ruth and Merle at the Carleton Place Farmers Market gave us some and we made some delicious zucchini curry. A simple recipe where you can taste the sweetness and freshness of the star, the zucchini.

This weekend we took some time to ourselves. What do we do to wind down ? Cook of course ! We made a popular South Indian dish called Idlis which is made of steam rice and is served with coconut chutney. Surprise!! We will be at the Carleton Place Farmers Market this Saturday! We are starting with snacks only for now and will have a couple of favorites. ... . . . . SAMOSAS !! Yes read that again... Your favorite vegan samosas are back ! & ONION PAKORAS!! Our vegan and gluten free pakoras will also be available! Because this year is different on all fronts, the snacks will be served cold (for now), available for your take away and reheating at home. We will be re-evaluating this on a week-to-week basis. We appreciate your patience while we try to navigate this environment! Raj did a test run of the samosas today and obviously the family volunteered to test them out

These triangular pieces of heaven aka Samosas made their way to a house party. While we are waiting for the market season eagerly, we are doing dinner and party orders. These samosas were made to order, mild yet flavourful!

Experiments in the kitchen! We tried a popular North Indian winter dish, sarson ka saag with makki ki roti. Sarson is a leafy vegetable from the mustard plant cooked with green chilies and spinach and makki ki roti is made with corn flour /corn meal. Rapini is the closest that we get in North America to sarson so we used that instead. We also bought ourselves an Instant Pot to try new recipes so here is our final product. Yes, that glistening on the roti is butter. The closest thing to an Indian dhaba, right here in our house!

We wanted to let our amazing customers know that this Saturday, October 12th we will not be there as we are away visiting family. We will be back on October 19th at the Carleton Place Farmers Market. We also wanted to use this opportunity to give thanks to the Carleton Place market because its through them that we have made so many friends and met so many amazing people along the way. This is our fourth year at the market and we are so grateful to have you in our lives. Raj, Ram, Priya and Pooja are so happy to have this opportunity to say thank you for the bottom of our hearts. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!

The menu for this Saturday is ready! Samosas (potato and peas) - vegan *NEW* Chicken biryani with raita... Vegetarian biryani with raita Biryani is a style of slow cooking meat or vegetables in a homemade curry and then, this mixture is layered with basmati rice and cooked on low flame for hours to infuse the flavour into the rice. A shorba (flavored curry) is poured on top of the rice and it is served with a cucumber and carrot raita which is made with yogurt, to simmer some of those warm flavours.
