The Ralph Thornton Community Centre continues to bring our popular Saulter Street Stairwell Gallery online while the building is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This month we are celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride with Mika Babineau's painting series "Ace and In Your Face", a rich and deeply personal exploration of understanding and feeling pride in sexual identity, as told through self-portraits. Late yesterday afternoon, the City of Toronto released the following statement: Based on recommendations from Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Eileen de Villa, to help slow the rate of COVID-19 infection in Toronto and protect vulnerable populations including seniors, people with compromised immune systems, and individuals experiencing homelessness, the City of Toronto is cancelling all programs and closing a number of its facilities as of 12:01 a.m. tomorrow. As a ...City of Toronto agency, the Ralph Thornton Community Centre has closed, cancelling all programming from Saturday, March 14 until April 6, 2020. While we realize this will greatly inconvenience many community members, we must follow the abundance of caution being demonstrated by the City. We can still be reached at [email protected].

A week ago today, I ran the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in a "Game of Thrones" running throne (despite being made of iron, forged by dragons, it 'onl...y' weighed about ten pounds). Got lots of cheers throughout the run, but was humbled by the fact that toward the beginning of the race, people were cheering "Go, Joffrey," while by the end of the race, I heard "God, it's Bram the Broken!" I ran to fundraise for the Ralph Thornton Community Centre, and we are 90% of the way to our goal of $2,500. If you would like to help put us over the top, you can still sponsor me at https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx. Any donation will be much appreciated. I also just love this picture! Thanks to Sooin Kim for capturing the moment!
