Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement. 3:07 PM EST Wednesday 23 December 2020 Special weather statement in effect for:... Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago Potentially heavy rain followed by significant snow early Friday. Rain is forecast to begin tonight ahead of an approaching low pressure system. This rain will then continue into Thursday and become heavy at times. Total rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm are likely. By Thursday evening or Thursday night, the rain is expected to change over to snow after the passage of a strong cold front. Several centimetres of snowfall accumulation will be possible Thursday night through Friday morning, which is Christmas morning. Locally significant accumulations may cause hazardous driving conditions into Saturday morning. There remains considerable uncertainty as to the exact track of this low pressure system and the timing of the changeover from rain to snow. This will ultimately affect how much snow may fall at any particular location. Motorists should be prepared for deteriorating winter driving conditions in areas that receive snow from Thursday evening through Friday morning. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.

Can you help? Brechin sidewalks along highway 12 have been taken over by weeds and it isn’t pretty. They need to go! We’re looking for volunteers to give a little of their time to come out and help remove them. You can do it anytime you are free. Spend 10 mins or an hour - whatever you can do. If you can, take a photo and post it here so we can see. If you own a business or home, please help by clearing your section of sidewalk. Just be careful as it is a busy highw...ay. Let’s see if we can’t clean up Brechin in time for Thanksgiving weekend. We’ve already had Alexis Victor start the effort by cleaning along the railing at the north end of town. What an improvement! Thanks Alexis!
