A Crack in the Hourglass - Artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer has created a beautiful tribute to victims of COVID-19. Though he made a full recovery after catching the virus earlier this year, Lozano-Hemmer hasn’t forgotten about all of the victims now totaling more than one million people worldwide. He describes it as a live online memorial that slowly draws and erases submitted portraits of victims of COVID-19 with the same hourglass sand. ... This is a mosaic of some of the renditions so far. See the exhibition, submit photos, and watch the art being made at acrackinthehourglass.net The artist was recently featured on CBC’s q with Tom Power for a conversation that’s a must-listen: https://www.cbc.ca//15813360-artist-rafael-lozano-hemmer-l #rafaellozanohemmer #lozanohemmer #acrackinthehourglass #covid19 #art #artist #artandtech #drawing #portrait #cbcq #tompower #memorial #onlinememorial #tribute

THE FUTURE OF ART IS DIGITAL! Digital art is a fascinating and evolving niche of the market, but many people need more knowledge and insights to move their curiosity forward to a real place of getting it. Enter Justin Wasser’s recent article The Future of Art is Digital on Hidden Levers - an excellent breakdown analysis of how to understand digital art in terms of authenticity, value, context and guidance for collectors, and perspectives on what makes it uniquely special ...(and even revolutionary). It’s an efficient read taking stock of where we are now with digital art and the possibilities of that trajectory in the future. Find below a teaser excerpt from the article, which you can read in full at hiddenlevers.io Reach out to Justin directly on the website to continue the dialogue and learn more! ...This is what excites me the most about digital art, you can make the asset available to the entire world and it doesn’t make it any less rare or valuable. In fact, as a collector you want as many people as possible to be downloading and enjoying the artworks that only you provably own because this is how the artwork gains value. It’s not unlike individual collectors lending their physical artwork to museum shows; more eyeballs equate to more $$$. Hackatao, one of the most successful digital artist duos said it best ‘Everybody sees it, only one owns it’ #thefutureofartisdigital #hiddenlevers #digitalart #artandtechnology #art #artmarket #collectingdigitalart #blockchain #superrare #futureofart #greatread #justinwasser #proudmom

ALAN RATH 1959-2020 - We’re profoundly saddened to have learned of the loss of Alan Rath - a special artist, colleague, and friend. Rath has been internationally lauded for his pioneering exploration of electronics as an art form. With the background of an electrical engineer, Rath came to his practice with expertise, as well as thoughtful sensitivity in his approach. The kinetic sculptures he fashioned poetically combine human and technological elements. Many incorporate com...puter-animated still images of human features, such as eyes, mouths, and hands displayed on LCD screens. These screens are mounted on sculptural armatures and the images are programmed to change in subtle, progressive permutations. The screen images often appear to be involved in some form of communication. Rath’s works are recognized for being carefully crafted and charged with subtle wit. He was one of few visual artists to design, build, and program all parts of his work. We admire how Rath raised and championed the human aspect; understanding that our humanity is what animates technology and fosters meaningful connections. As one of the artists featured in the group exhibition RAM: Rethinking Art & Machine, Rath made an indelible mark and we will all remember him fondly. . L’Età dell’Oro (The Golden Age) in Venice, Italy! Venice’s Piazza San Marco has been illuminated by artist Fabrizio Plessi’s dramatic video installation, which features digital cascades of molten gold in the windows of the Museo Correr. The phrase pax tibi (peace upon thee) has been incorporated into the waterfalls. It was drawn from the gospel held open by the golden lion, the symbol of Venice, which holds court on the façade of the Basilica di San Marco. Plessi sh...ared: In the midst of a very dark moment, I wanted to create a strong positive message, a message that everyone can understand. L’Età dell’Oro was created with the partnership and support of Dior. It will remain in place until November 15, 2020. #fabrizioplessi #plessi #dior #letadelloro #thegoldenage #venice #piazzasanmarco #italy #artinitaly #publicart #videoinstallation #basilicadisanmarco #paxtibi #gold #venicelion #goldenlion #art #artist #italianartist #museocorrer @ Piazza San Marco Venezia See more
