In late Jan. 2017 at a family court motion I was able to get my female client not only spousal support at an income $2,500 higher than the husband’s lawyer wanted but 3.5 years child support for her two children ages 18 and 21 (both in university) despite the vast majority of caselaw being against us (not the biological father and they only lived together for ten months) and despite a very sharp and assertive Opposing Counsel who had 3 years experience and support from his "...boss" with many years, and despite two other experts whom I had previously consulted saying I would lose the motion and get no child support (and my LAO client might have to pay costs to the other side). Also was able to get the child and spousal support to start retroactive to when the husband booted my client and her kids from the house a year ago over the judge's initial reaction and strong objection of the Opposing Counsel (OC) who wanted it to start when we filed the motion recently (which can happen but often it goes back to the date the Application was filed which in this case was 6 months ago, so in effect I got it retro another six - ten months) I also got her half the net proceeds from the sale of the matrimonial home (which the husband must sell to be able to afford the child and spousal support) even though she paid zero toward the down payment and zero toward mortgage etc. The house was only purchased 15 months ago but has gone up a lot in value). The judge allowed it to be based on the current fair market value, not what it was 15 months ago (purchase price). Normally what the absent spouse would get would be reduced by what the stay-at-home had paid to maintain the house, (in fact the OC wanted an unequal division in his favour) but I argued that my client should get an equal credit for the occupancy rent she was entitled to but never got ) (even though if you actually calculate the occupancy rent it worked out to zero but we never got into that detail) So although I did not get higher spousal support than the usual mid range of the formula (we disputed the H's income and judge set it as half the difference - she would not allow his draws from his retirement fund from a prior job to count as income as I had sought) in all other respects I was very successful and the client texted me thanking me for being such a great lawyer.
