Join us for a FREE Webinar by Canadian Author - Candace Savage! Grasslands tug at our senses, challenging us to overcome our limitations as mere humans. On the... one hand, these wide-open landscapes call us to enlarge our horizons and soar across their broad expanse. On the other, the prairie seduces us with details, quietly drawing our attention to the little things that matter in this big, round world. The flick of a ground squirrel diving into its burrow, the wheeling shadow of a hawk, the ripple and run of its wingspan across the bending grass. In this presentation, Candace Savage will first present the big picture putting our prairie ecosystem into a continental and global context and then get up-close and personal with some of the unique creatures that live alongside us, here on the northern plains. She will make the case that conserving and restoring healthy prairie ecosystems must be our first priority. Thursday June 18th, 2020 at 12:00 pm CST This presentation is a FREE webinar. Twenty-five years experience conducting environmental and geotechnical planning of pipeline watercourse crossings construction methods! https://www.linkedin.com//urn:li:activity:6641423301912723
Watercourse crossings with geotechnical limitations deemed as non-or high-risk candidates for pipeline installation by horizontal directional drill (HDD), sometimes need to be open cut. Contingency plans for failed HDD may include re-entry of an HDD, alternative pipeline routes, new HDD alignment, or trenched (open cut with isolation or partial bypass) construction methods. Sometimes Plan B trenched construction crossings need to be engaged, either as a primary method or as a... secondary contingency. Rangeland provides pipeline watercourse crossings engineering, geotechnical/geophysical investigations and design services. We also provide hydro-engineering design recommendations for pipeline contractors to fabricate isolation, flume-pipe structures custom to the stream-flow hydrology (photo) of a crossing. We pride ourselves on providing a turn-key pipeline and road watercourse crossings environmental planning service that may include conducting aquatics assessments, regulatory applications/consultation, environmental inspection, science based restoration plans and water quality monitoring. We also have extensive experience physically conducting bio-engineer stream-bank stabilization and restoration work. Rangeland photo Edson, Alberta
Hydraulic fractures (i.e., frac-outs) occur during horizontal directional drilling (HDD) when down hole mud pressure exceed overburden pressure or if drilling fluid finds a seepage pathway (such as a fault line, fracture or loose material). Rangelands fisheries biologists and field technicians are trained in water quality monitoring for early detection of instream releases during HDDs. Rangeland also prepare crossing specific Environmental Protection Plan contingency plans should a frac-out occur and notification and clean-up is required. These photos show a frac-out that occurred during one of our projects and Rangelands containment and clean-up efforts. The second photo shows post-frac-out conditions (after clean-up).
