Looking for new ways to rediscover your world, a change of pace from looking at your screen and 4 walls? Give outdoor sketching a try - drawing and careful observation take you out of yourself, it’s very therapeutic, time slows, and the nagging worries and demands quiet. Plus your world gets a whole lot bigger and more complex when you start to delve into everything else sharing your space. Free sketchbooks are open to adults and kids, or donate and help others discover the joy of getting back to nature, and exploring their creativity.

An old friend from Victoria, a painter with a career as an illustrator and designer behind him, he’s very good at discussing the process and putting his choices into words.

CALL FOR ARTISTS! TELEPHONE: AN INTERNATIONAL ARTS GAME Looking for diverse kinds of artists to participate in our worldwide Art game of TELEPHONE! TELEPHONE is a global art project based on the children’s game Telephone (also called Operator, Grapevine, Telefono Roto, Dengon, Stille Poste, Telefono Descompuesto, Phonebook), in which a message is whispered from person to person. In this game, the message is whispered from art form to art form. A poem could become a painting, and then animation, digital art, and dance. All kinds of media are welcome. Each completed artwork is assigned for translation to numerous artists around the world, so the game branches out exponentially. To play go to: www.phonebook.gallery

I was lucky to be held up in the morning for our plein air at Westham Island Herb Farm's #Pumpkin Paradise, because I was able to enjoy both the fog and the sun... breaking through. It was another fabulous experience, with complex colours and textures, and I have an amazing array of local farm goods and pretty squash on our table now. I was aiming to express the variety in the rows I painted without overworking it, and I'm actually happy with this little 9x12" all painted with one 1" flat. #Ilovebigbrushes Tuesday is our final plein air event for BC Culture Days | Fête de la culture October 13, 10-1 at London Landing in Steveston (South end of Number 2 Rd). It's free and everyone welcome, just respect social distancing margins. Check out the Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/627676727907950 or the www.culturedays.ca website for information and we hope to see you 6’ away there! The The Community Arts Council of Richmond and the Richmond Branch of the BC SPCA (BCSPCA) are holding a joint fundraiser in November. If you are a 2d visual artist and would like to volunteer for this novel fundraiser, please email [email protected] and we will add you to our growing list of volunteer artists. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have about our plans. Fundraising in the new normal is anything but easy, and they have missed out on many of their traditional fundraising activities this year. If you can help in any way, they would be most grateful.
