Another Boy Scout memory from my Grandfather.. guessing this was his when he was a Cub.. Camillus New York. Vintage 1930s? Upon further investigation this knife is likely from the 1970s. Hmmm, I was a cub in the 70s. The mystery continues.

$20 and a little over half a pound. Impulse buy? Garbage? Maybe.

Handed down to me when I became a boy scout from my Grandfather. From physical fitness, making fire and fishing, it was the handbook for boys.Times sure have changed.

Easy dinners, not the best, but cheaper and just as good as any back packer meal, and not much different for size or weight. No mess, no dishes. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Yh2rGhG1gLAU1i129

Had a great 2 night hiking trek on the Devil's lake loop. I visited sites 40, 41 and 42.. not well marked nore trailed. Site 44 is well used and had a thunder box. Stayed on site 45 and found site 46 (about 200 meters to the east of where its marked on the park map) no trail and no markers. Site 43 is small but lovely, not maked or trailed. And site 26 was well used, but was a full on bush whack. I suggest going from south of the bridge to avoid excessive soakers. It did have... a thunder box. Met all the Oshawa Bush crafters on Sheldon and a few hunters on the trek.. Friday night was a dangerous night for any new folks to Backcountry camping. Tornado warnings with heavy lightening had me under my tarp atop of my sleep pad hoping for the best, then the 20 degree temperature plunge...this loop is more beautiful than Algonquin and has hints of difficulty but is for the most part a great place to get a soaker. I will be back to explore the east side of the park and possibly put a boat in for a trip one day. With all the exploring I walked about 10k a day for 3 or 4 hours taking a break for lunch and chatting along the way. My pack was heavy (by choice) including a chair and axe.. still 25lbs base weight. Likey close to 50 when I started with food, dog food, fuel and 2lt of water. One last note, I recomend a GPS application like Earthmate where you load the locations and plot the trail.. I was able to zone in on the locations with great accuracy.. See more
