Debunking the myth of aluminium wiring. If you live in a house built in or renovated between the mid 1960’s to late 1970’s you may have aluminium wiring. Having aluminium wiring, in their home, makes many people nervous. We have many customers that ask us to remove all the aluminium wiring in their home. But the truth is this is impractical, expensive and unnecessary. Aluminium wiring for the most part is just as good as copper wiring. However the problem with alumini...um wiring is the points where connections are made. Over the years in these older homes many home owners have installed new plugs and switches that aren’t rated for aluminium wiring. This can cause a fire hazard as shown in this picture. This all can be corrected and brought up to electrical code by using aluminium rated wire nuts and anti-oxidizing compound.
