Boy spring migration has just exploded here to today. All kinds of new birds returning-tundra swans, sandhill cranes, finally small flocks of mallards, the lessor Canadas are here in force now. As the ice melts in the sloughs there is a gas escaping up through the ice and bubbling up to the top-never seen this before. must be from decomposing material. Only lasted a few hours but was very noisy could be heard and seen 40 yards away. No sign of beavers but everyone else sees them. Heard the black bears out now too.

Today we finished our annual goose nesting box just in time for the spring migration to SE Saskatchewan. Hopefully a Canada Goose or mallard duck will think this is a good safe spot to nest. A heron or turkey vulture or eagle would be bonus.

This whitetail buck was crying to be posted here on the hunting page. No where close to Boone and Crocket material but still a great photo!

Today we got an answer to last fall's missing mallards. My friend Eddy Wittry from Denver solved the mystery with a little detective work. Seems they ended up in Nebraska being blown off course by last fall's westerly winds. Nebraska hunters reported more ducks than ever before in recent memory.
