Hope you're all having a great start to the week! What do you love to do on blah winter days? All my commissions are complete so I finally had some free creative time. Decided to play around with a bit of weaving on this cool, grey day.

Mshkoogaboomi: aadizookaan (We stand strong: a sacred story) This series of four was something I had wanted to complete for awhile and this is originally how I had envisioned the panels to be mounted (turquoise photo). Each canvas measures 18x26" and are for sale for $250 each (black panel is SOLD)... Each one of these paintings share some of the teachings that were passed on to me when I was younger, from the sacred medicines that sit in each direction to those that are responsible for guiding us through them. They speak to the resilience that is present in our world and how when we think all is lost we are capable of so much inner strength. Panel 1: Keewatinong: North (white) We are just ushering out the season represented in this piece, Winter. The North holds the teachings from old age, sweetgrass, and is represented by the colour white and our family member the deer. The colours of this piece are more subdued and the plant-life more sparse as you would find them in nature. Here we see evergreens, resilient berries, sumac, thistles, and seed pods. Panel 2: Wabanong: East (yellow) The season represented in this piece, Spring, is swiftly arriving and making itself known more each day. The East holds the teachings from infancy, the sacred plant tobacco, and is represented by the colour yellow and our family member the eagle. The colours of this piece are all about the fresh young greens you find peeking through the snow as well as the vibrant flowers that demand our admiration. Here we see various flowering plants including trillium, tobacco, and snowdrops, as well as the early pollinators so essential for life. Panel 3: Shawanong: South (red) The season represented in this piece is Summer with its strength and prime of life . The South holds the teachings from youth, the sacred cedar, and is represented by the colour red and our family member the coyote (in my piece a coy-wolf). This piece portrays the deep, strong greens and variety that can be found during the summer. Here we see various flowering plants both terrestrial and aquatic, from the milkweed that the monarch depends upon so much to the water lilies that we often find covering the waters edge. Panel 4:Sha’ngabi’hanong : West (black) The Autumn season portrayed in this piece is one of learning to accept and embrace the changes that we face in life. The West holds the teachings from Adulthood, the medicine Sage, and is represented by the colour black and our family member the bear. This piece showcases the bold colours presented by our first family as well as the final batches of young seeds that will overwinter and carry on the cycle of life. *SOLD*

One of my faves from a few years back. I found this abandoned canvas with a small acrylic pour on it and decided to play around with it. The result was a piece I titled "The Great Cosmic Egg" 18x24" Acrylic & Ink on canvas board.

As I woke up to see snow on the ground this morning, I'm reminded that we are passing into another season and into another phase of our medicine wheel teachings. The North is represented by the colour white, our elders, holds the teachings of sweetgrass, and is watched over by our family member the deer. As we edge into this next cycle let it remind you of the beauty that can be found in this phase. The stillness and quiet of a beautiful winter morning, the wisdom and confidence that come with age, and the knowledge that death gives rise to new life. Keewatinong (North) is available now here: https://www.ravenstarstudio.ca/shop/keewatinongnorth

*EDIT: All sets are spoken for, thank you so much for your interest* You asked and so I have created! I've made up a very limited run of cards with a few of my woodland designs printed on them. There will be 6- 4x5.5 cards in a pack with two of each design and they will be blank inside so you can personalize them however you want. There will only be five sets in total available as I don't relish being stuck with a gazillion cards at this point in time. However, if they com...e out nice I'll definitely consider carrying prints in the future (cards, maybe even mugs and shirts?)...I always imagine making prints is more horrible than it really is Packs will be $12 each (shipping extra) See more
