Breakfast bowls. Our favourites in this house. Cleaning up my eating after wine-drinking this long weekend. If you have back pain, check your wine consumption. It’s a thing. (I feel like I need a chiropractor after a few days of consecutive wine drinking.) #cleaneating #antiinflamatorydiet #canmorepottery #raynemakerpottery #toomuchwine #juliaraynepottery #summerbreakfast #if #healyourbody @ Canmore, Alberta

It only took me 4 months to make enough pots to fill my kiln. But, you know, I still got it. Love the range of subtle colours on these freshies. #canmorepottery #raynemakerpottery #juliaraynepottery #imstillhere #ceramicmugs #coffeemug #canmoreart

Day 7 I was nominated for a 7 Day Ceramic Art Challenge by The Great @trudygolley . Post one piece and nominate an artist each day. These little "Olive Bowls" are finger-pressed slabs. They aren't sculptural or complex, like my previous 6 pieces. But they have an organic quality and balance to their form, weight and design that is so pleasing to me. ... Finally, my last nominee is the double-nominated Lia Tajcnar of @curiosity.smith . Lia, and @musingaboutmud , were completing their Masters degrees @ The Australian National University, when I arrived there for a semester, during my bachelor degree. Her intricate and seemingly microscopical explorations of nature-inspired universes have been burnt into my memory. And I'd love to see what 7 images she's got in her banks for us! #caroleepp #musingaboutmud #canmorepottery #raynemakerpottery #curiositysmith

Day 6 I was nominated for a 7 Day Ceramic Art Challenge by The Great @trudygolley . Post one piece and nominate an artist each day. This is a skull series I did for a couple of very cool friends. @rosemarywhelpdale & Christian. Once in a while, I remind myself that I would be an excellent tattoo artist. These drawings are done with a brush, in wax resist. I get one shot at drawing these, as you cannot undo a mistake in wax. A very unforgiving medium. So I practice once on pap...er, then I go to the mug for my one single chance at getting it right. And I nail it, baby. Yes I do (*pat on the back*). Today I nominate Kirsty Wilson Ceramics. A mountain lover who made her home here, in Canmore for a while. A pumper of iron and painter of golden moons. Show us yer guns Kirsty! @kirstywilsonceramics #skullmugs #skullmug #canadianceramics #raynemakerpottery #canmorepottery

Day 5 I was nominated for a 7 day ceramic art challenge by The Great @trudygolley . Post one piece and nominate an artist each day. A tribute to the "Indian Paintbrush Vase" (2015). This project was inspired by my dear friend @susanparkberg , who had a red wedding, to match the flower. ... *Please keep wild flowers safe, and in the ground. We teach our children here never to pick a flower. Or else there will be no flowers for anyone to enjoy next year. Today I nominate a clay friend of mine Rose Bauer. Her work is naturally beautiful. Rose, show us your stuff! @ Canmore, Alberta

Day 4 I was nominated for a 7 day ceramic art challenge by The Great Trudy Golley. Post one piece and nominate an artist each day. "Self Portrait as John Mayer" (2013) is a tribute to a creative and absolutely hilarious time spent with my dear friend Serene Bobean. You're welcome, to everyone who encountered us that evening. This self-standing piece is an exploration of print-making using casting-slip. ... Today, I nominate a fellow college class-mate, Jenn Demke-Lange of MIKIND Studio, Medicine Hat, Alberta. Jenn creates lovely drawings on her pots, with whimsy and simplicity. Looking forward to seeing your pieces Jenn!

Day 3 I was nominated for a 7 day ceramic art challenge by The Great @trudygolley. Post one piece and nominate an artist each day. These "Imperial Kashmir Vessels" were produced while working as the temporary Ceramics Studio Technician at Red Deer College. They were featured at the Alberta Craft Council exhibition "Coming Up Next 2013", in Edmonton, Alberta. @albertacraftcouncil ... Today I nominate Katie Borrowman from of Cabbages & Kings Pottery @ofcabbagesandkingspottery in Canmore, Alberta. Katie and her dad are pioneer potters who welcomed me (and many others) into their space and community. 11 years ago I joined their studio where they allowed me to establish my new business and get started in the community! Thanks to them, I was able to create some momentum and make some wonderful connections! My studio has moved a few times since then, but I sure appreciate that beginning. Thank you Katie! #canmorepottery #raynemakerpottery #7daychallenge @ Canmore, Alberta

Day 2 I was nominated for a 7 day ceramic art challenge by The Great Trudy Golley. Post one piece and nominate an artist each day. This flower vase from 2010 was a door opener to more stack-able, multi-piece, functional sculptures. I thoroughly enjoy the longer process and the gradual unfolding of these pieces as I take a few days to complete their design. It's all an intuitive process that unfold at the time. ... Today I nominate Siouxie Cairns of Sexpots Studios. Vibrant, cheeky, vivacious, athletic, fun loving, motivated, super star. Keeping it real in Golden, BC. #sexpotz #7daychallenge Trudy Golley (Photo Credit: Paul Leathers)

Day 1 I was nominated for a 7 day ceramic art challenge by The Great @trudygolley . Post one piece and nominate an artist each day. "Drained" was a bold experiment at the time, joining 5 different clay bodies together into one piece. Using 3 or 4 different building methods (thrown, plaster mold, slab, altered). Including a cool glaze I discovered from my Glaze & Technologies class. I was a student at ACAD (Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary) in my 4th and final year.... Today "Drained" sits between two like-pieces, under a @sergedubeart painting. I nominate Shannon Butler of Kilnhouse Studio. @kilnhousestudio The best college room mate and studio neighbour a girl could ask for. A hard working and dedicated human if I ever saw one. A maker of beauty, and an honest example of how sticking your gazungas out... er... I mean sticking to your guns can get you where you want to go in life. #7daychallenge #rayemakerpottery #canmorepottery #juliaraynepottery #ceramics #ceramicart #canadianceramics @ Canmore, Alberta

It may seem crazy to invest such time and care into a property that is not fulfilling its purpose. But that care we continue to demonstrate, however useless it is right now, gives our days value. And helps us pat ourselves on the back. #doitgood #canmore #haling #halingpeak #mysticsprings #canmoreairbnb (another painting done for our furnished short-term rental property.) @ Mystic Springs

Painting has been easier to fit in lately. I was time pressed for a few wall pieces needed for our furnished rental unit. And I welcomed the challenge. Popping into the studio to paint a little, here and there, is possible. But pottery, which is more time sensitive, hasn’t proved very manageable. More regular, longer periods of time are needed in order to stay on top of the assembly and drying of clay pieces. And that’s just not been possible lately, with our 6 year old home,... and Eric working. Trying to be productive in creative ways, in the kitchen, and painting a little, has been helping. Life is a challenging balance. And without all the usual resources in place, we have to really fight to create as much (personal and relational) balance as possible to maintain our mental health, and to support each other. Whatever creative outlet we can manage. It helps. #threesisters #bowvalley #canmore #thisisdifferent #creativeproduction #beproductive #trysomethingnew #getcreative #airbnb #mysticspringscanmore @ Mystic Springs See more
