Are you a teacher planning for Orange Shirt Day? See details about the program below! What can I expect in this program? The program will be presented in two 4...5 minutes sections. The first 45 minute section focuses on the theme of Truth. The second section focuses on the theme of Reconciliation. The truth section will feature an in-depth discussion of the residential school system and legacy. Residential School Survivors, including Orange Shirt Day founder Phyllis Webstad, knowledge keepers and TRC Commissioners are but some of the speakers in this segment. Also included is a moving tribute to the children that never returned home from residential schools. The second act consists of a series of inspirational and compelling discussions on matters facing Indigenous peoples and the country as a whole. A broad range of First Nations, Métis, Inuit and non-Indigenous speakers will be providing messages of determination, hope and resilience. Speakers include Duncan McCue, Buffy Saint-Marie, Zoe Roy and many more. A tribute to Chanie Wenjack and an acknowledgement of Gord Downie's allyship is part of the Reconciliation segment. Young people from across the country will see themselves throughout the program, as several of the programs segments have been produced by youth or feature youth leaders. From the words of National Indigenous leaders, short films produced by youth to moving songs and imagery, the program will speak to the hearts of viewers across Canada. --- What time does it start?
