Have a blessed Solemnity of Christ King of the Universe! May the King of love reign in our hearts, homes and families, and bring peace to our wounded, worn and weary world. "Let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help" Hebrews 4:16

COMING CLOSER TO CHRIST: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind In today's Gospel passage, Jesus packs all the wisdom of the world into two short commandments. The keyword is, obviously, love. Usually, we associate this word with some pleasant feelings, intense and delightful emotions. But the word Jesus used means something much deeper. It is the word "agape" [AH-gah-pay], and it refers to the love that means desi...ring union with something that is good in itself. If we love a person, it means we love spending time with them, getting to know them, sharing the experiences of life with them. This is Christian love: not some passing, self-indulgent emotion, but a courageous lifestyle that puts God first, others second, and self third. SENDING US OUT: You shall love your neighbour as yourself Laying down our lives for others is not complicated. Whenever we perform ordinary actions with extraordinary love, such as cleaning the house or taking out the trash, or listening when we feel like interrupting, we are laying down our lives for others. We need to be patient: we are not always going to feel extraordinary love, but it is enough to choose the good of the other person and try to carry that out. Pick someone this week for whom you can do an act of charity and show God's love through action.

October 22 is the feast of St. John Paul II "We are an Easter people and 'Alleluia'' is our song." - Saint John Paul II, Address in Harlem, New York (1979). PRAYER TO ST. JOHN PAUL II... Oh, St. John Paul, from the window of heaven, grant us your blessing! Bless the church that you loved and served and guided, courageously leading it along the paths of the world in order to bring Jesus to everyone and everyone to Jesus. Bless the young, who were your great passion. Help them dream again, help them look up high again to find the light that illuminates the paths of life here on earth. May you bless families, bless each family! You warned of Satan's assault against this precious and indispensable divine spark that God lit on earth. St. John Paul, with your prayer, may you protect the family and every life that blossoms from the family. Pray for the whole world, which is still marked by tensions, wars, and injustice. You tackled war by invoking dialogue and planting the seeds of love: pray for us so that we may be tireless sowers of peace. Oh, St. John Paul, from heaven's window, where we see you next to Mary, send God's blessing down upon us all. Amen.

COMING CLOSER TO CHRIST: Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God. The image that was engraved on the coin was Caesar, but the image that is engraved in our hearts and souls is the image of God. Every Christian holds dual citizenship, each one of which has its own benefits and duties. Our birth made us citizens of an earthly nation; our baptism made us citizens of a heavenly Kingdom. Our earthly citizenship will finish, while our heavenly citizens...hip will last forever. SENDING US OUT: Today Christ is reminding us that, as far as possible, we need to live out both of these citizenships responsibly. How can we do that? Let's take a few minutes to reflect on how we can be good citizens of earth, giving to Caesar what belongs to him, as well as good citizens in Christ's Kingdom, giving to God what belongs to him.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a big impact on all us, but what’s been the effect on us as a Catholic community? The bishops of Alberta and the Northwest Territories released a pastoral statement, called On the Impact of COVID-19 and the Call to Christian Renewal. I like to encourage everyone joining this beautiful pathway with faith to God’s Love.... Our Catholic faith has much to contribute with respect to promoting human, social and spiritual values for the common good of society. We trust that you, like us, see the urgency to discern wisely the signs of the times and to reset our lives so that our collective experience in moving forward accords with the Gospel. Guided by the Holy Spirit, and through the intercession of the most holy Mother of God, we are confident that this can be a time for bold creativity and life-giving transformation for all. We ask for God’s blessing on this endeavour and upon all who join with us in this journey of discernment and path of renewal. Yours in Christ, Catholic Bishops of Alberta and NWT

The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, whose memorial the Church celebrates September 15th. September falls during the liturgical season known as Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heave, especially the hope and glorious resurrection. PRAYER TO THE MOTHER OF SORROWS... Ah, my Blessed Mother, it is not one sword only with which I have pierced thy heart, but I have done so with as many as are the sins which I have committed. Ah, Lady, it is not to thee, who art innocent, that sufferings are due, but to me, who am guilty of so many crimes. But since thou hast been pleased tosuffer so much for me, ah, by thy merits, obtain me great sorrow for my sins, and patience under the trials of this life, which will always be light in comparison with my demerits; for I have often deserved Hell. Amen. See more
