For the second time in a week, Island police find themselves dealing with a seal pup who has made its way to land. On Tuesday, February 23rd, Queens district RC...MP received a call from a concerned citizen that a seal pup had crossed the highway near Fairview and was now headed into the field, away from the water. The RCMP responded and located the trail left by the pup which stretched nearly three kilometers inland. The RCMP and a member from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans utilized a snowmobile and the RCMP's Traffic Unit's drone to locate the disoriented seal. The seal was safely captured and transported by snowmobile back to the road way. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans then transported the seal to the north shore where it was release back into the water. Some days are better than others in the world of policing! rcmp-grc.ca/86297

In order to join the Musical Ride, police officers need to take and pass the Intermediate Equitation training program. Earlier this month, our Intermediates graduated. After six months of hard work and determination, they celebrated their accomplishments in a graduation ceremony called the Pass-Out. Next up for these new Riders is the Musical Ride. Congratulations grads! We can't wait to see you perform.
Meet Cpl. Rielly Knock. He's been an RCMP officer since 2007, with most of his service in Northern Saskatchewan. In 2016, he came out as a member of the transgender community. Since then, he's been helping the RCMP develop a more gender inclusive workplace. One of the ways he's doing this is by educating his colleagues across Canada on issues that are important to LGBTQ2S+ communities and why allyship is so important. "When you can take a concept and make it personal, people ...can understand it better. I'm trying to take some of the mystery and confusion out of the equation so that my colleagues can better work with members of the LGBTQ2S+ communities and hopefully work towards gaining back some of the trust that's been lost through misguided or outdated practices." Everyone plays a role in creating inclusive workplaces and community spaces; this is just one example of how we're working to modernize the RCMP. People like Cpl. Knock are helping us eliminate barriers and creating a police service more representative of the communities we serve.
