RDC has been informed that two members of the RDC community have tested positive for COVID-19. The individuals who have COVID-19 are in self-isolation, and we w...ish them well as they being their road to recovery. These individuals last attended RDC’s main campus on Thursday, October 8, and they did not display any symptoms of COVID-19 at that time. People who are known to have been in close contact with the individuals who are ill while they were last on campus are also self-isolating, as a precaution. Other people who may have been impacted by this positive COVID-19 case at the College will be directly contacted. RDC’s main campus remains open, and courses and services currently offered in-person will continue. Additionally, online learning activities will also continue as normal. It is important for all RDC students, faculty, and staff to offer kindness and support to each other during this time as we persevere through the pandemic together. Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Facility Re-Opening Following the Provincial Government’s announcement earlier this week regarding stage 2 of the Alberta Relaunch Strategy, Red Deer College is developing re-opening plans for the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in alignment with the Government of Alberta guidelines. New policies and procedures need to be developed and implemented, PPE needs to be sourced and ordered, and the facility needs to be assessed, cleaned, and ...inspected. Once we have a safe re-opening plan, we will communicate our re-opening date and the safety protocols required for the safe operation of our facilities via e-mail and our social media channels. Our facilities will not be opening as of today, Friday, June 12th. We will safely re-open as soon as we can and look forward to inviting our valued members, community, Provincial, and National sport organizations, partners and guests back to our campus to meet your training, recreation, and fitness needs. #myrdc

We have seen and heard about the recent situation in the United States and the sadness, pain and frustration that many are feeling, not only in Minnesota, but across the U.S.A. and Canada. Today is Blackout Tuesday, which is a day to pause as we show solidarity for our Black students and communities, including those in the United States. It is a day for us to listen more intently. As a result, RDC’s social media channels have gone silent for the day, providing the opportunit...y to reflect on not only what is going on south of the border, but within our College. Education is about teaching and learning. We can all learn through these circumstances how we can improve as individuals and, more powerfully, as a post-secondary institution. Inclusiveness is one of RDC’s values, and today gives us the opportunity to reflect on that within our College community. What can we do to better support our Black students? What can we do to better support all of our under-represented student populations? We need to take the time to consider how we can better support our students, coworkers and community members of colour, individually and as an institution. So, we’re encouraging you to share your thoughts and experiences on Red Deer College's original post so we can learn how to better support you. This is an opportunity for us to listen, learn and collectively grow. #BlackOutTuesday

A huge congratulations to our RDC Rodeo athletes in their 2019/20 season. Unfortunately circumstances cut the season short, but our athletes should not go unrec...ognized! A huge congratulations to Jamie-Lee Spady on finishing as season leader in Team Roping as a Heeler, as well as finishing 3rd in Pole Bending and 8th in Breakaway Roping. Jessica Gunsch finished the season in 4th for Breakaway Roping and 6th in Team Roping as a Header. Martina Holtkamp finished 2nd in the Goat Tying. All of our team did a phenomenal job at representing RDC throughout the year and we look forward to those returning in September. We are sad to see those who have graduated or will be moving on to pursue the rest of their education, you guys will be missed! Good luck in your future endeavours! Update #3: March 15, 2020, 3:00 p.m.: To help mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19, Red Deer College has cancelled most in-person classes on Monday and Tu...esday, March 16 and 17. This class cancellation will allow the College’s academic teams and instructors to plan for, and transition to, online and remote delivery of its as many classes as possible, starting on Wednesday, March 18. With the breadth of programs and courses offered by RDC, a common solution of providing online delivery in all cases is not possible. Classes and labs within RDC’s School of Trades and Technologies for Apprenticeship students will continue in-person on Monday and Tuesday, given the hands-on components involved in these courses. As for Engineering Technology students, classes are cancelled for Monday and Tuesday and will resume through online delivery starting Wednesday. RDC students will be contacted by each of their class and practicum instructors as soon as possible early this week when further details of their class delivery will be provided. Red Deer College's main campus and downtown campus will remain open on Monday and Tuesday, and beyond. Employees are expected to attend work in-person (providing they are not ill or in self-isolation), and to have discussions with their supervisors regarding any potential alternative work arrangements. More details from today’s update: bit.ly/2ISnUu0 RDC continues to monitor the fluid COVID-19 situation. We will provide updates as information becomes available here: rdc.ab.ca/coronavirus #MyRDC

RDC Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre 03.08.2019

We were sad to lose our dear friend, Gary W. Harris, on February 15. Over the past five years, our College, our city and the 2019 Canada Winter Games were recip...ients of his generosity, his support for athletics and his belief in community. For Gary, however, these gifts were just the tip of the iceberg, and his impact has been decades in the making. Gary’s ties to our College ran deep. As a former student, he understood what it meant to leave this community to finish a degree, and he supported our quest for University status. Recently, he established a scholarship for Education students, to honour the legacy of his mother, a former teacher. As a King, he supported our student-athletes by attending games and alumni events. The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre stands as a prominent reminder of his generosity, and his absence is felt across our College. Throughout his career, Gary was a teacher, a lawyer, a businessman, and a philanthropist in the truest sense. We will continue to hold his wife Ruth, his family and his friends in our hearts as we mourn this loss and reflect on his legacy. We’re proud to have called him a true friend, and we’ll miss seeing him on our campus and in the stands.
