Today we would like to show everybody an example of what is considered unacceptable behaviour within our community. Please be aware that the following post includes discussions on sex and attacks on mental health and medication-shaming. . . . .... . . . . . For context, this is an older individual who asked to be a part of our adult FB group and discord server. The only time they interacted on the server was to complain about a lack of sex, and then to drop a philosophic tangent completely out of context from the surrounding conversation. When asked whether they were alright [after waxing philosophic] they blew off the concern. At no point did they approach either Admin with their concerns about the content of the servers, or request a more serious conversation topic. The below series of messages were sent to our page at midnight. While we at RDQCA understand that there is a time and place for serious discussion in the LGBTQ2IA+ community, our servers are not one of them unless there is a majority agreement on the topic. The conversations that occur within the server occur naturally, as it would in real life. To attempt to belittle or police these conversations is exclusionary and attempts to create an atmosphere that we do not want within our community. If there is a need for more serious discussions, we are more than willing to listen to topic suggestions and are absolutely open to providing a space for those discussions to occur. However, it must be remembered by all community members that this is to be a safe, welcoming space for everyone, not just a select few. Furthermore, this individual's personal attack on an Admin's mental health is in no uncertain terms, vile. Whether someone takes medication or not holds absolutely no sway over whether they can perform their roles within our community. RDQCA is a medication-positive community and we will absolutely not tolerate any abuses toward those who take medication to handle their mental and/or physical health. If you notice behaviour that is similarly disturbing or harmful, please bring it to the attention of an Admin at once. We want everybody to feel safe here and we will take your claim seriously.
