As I finish up my commitment with one three year group, Remembering our Way it has been my intention to start another. In the 20 plus years since I have been offering group work, I find the current work to be the most relevant and rewarding. This is even truer since the pandemic. I have pondered long and hard about how I could offer such intimate, intensive and hands on work in the current climate. It certainly is not possible to have people co-habitate here for full wee...kends. But that does not mean there is nothing we can do! Rather than waiting for this pandemic to resolve (if it does) I have decided to push on. I will need to radically change the format to allow us to gather safely. Instead of meeting four full weekends a year, we will meet once a month on Saturdays until the snow flies and then again in spring. Equinox/Thanksgiving/Ancestors Gathering Saturday, September 19th Rain Date: Sunday, September 20th... What a joy it is to pick and eat from the plants that are putting out their full fruits as an expression of beauty, abundance and the great willingness of the Earth Mother to feed us and keep us going for another turn of the wheel. Fall Equinox is fast approaching and the Earth energies will soon be receding into the roots, the place of the Ancestors. The time has come to ritually mark the transition! Since the pandemic I have had to be more creative about how I offer season rituals - no more sweats to cleans us and help us prepare for the season to come. This year I will offer a day of teaching and ritual at the shrine to the Ancestors which will combine the intentions of feeding the Ancestors, praising the harvest and welcoming the season of fall. We will gather at 1:30 for some teaching about the Ancestors and their role in the unfolding of things. Then we will prepare a feast around the open fire from the great bounty that is this year's harvest. Over the course of the day we will offer some loving care to the Ancestors shrine and end our time together by prayerfully beseeching the Ancestors to walk with us and help us in these challenging times. Each participant will be asked to bring a small cooking pot or pan along with the fresh ingredients for a simple veggie or fruit dish (example, sauteed ginger carrots). Each dish will be cooked on the fire and contributed to the overall feast. Please specify what you plan to bring so we have some variety. Please also bring your own plate, cup, knife and fork. You may wish to bring a folding chair if stumps do not accommodate you. Friends, I have been feeling my way along as to how to keep some things alive here while honoring the restrictions we must all abide by during the pandemic. We have been welcoming people here for 30 years and in the beginning the need to implement physical distancing was quite heart breaking. The teaching I offer and the personal sessions have all gone on line, either by Zoom or by phone. One thing that I have learned at a deeper level is that deep intention can traverse an...y boundary or distance. We have done some very good and necessary work over the past few months. I have been intending to begin another long term group and though it may look very different, I hope to proceed with that in September. I will send something more specific out soon. If you have been waiting for this, perhaps you could contact me. Ritual is another matter. The land misses the people and the cycle of seasonal rituals we have done here. I have not posted any ritual events because I cannot host this kind of open gathering. I am though finding a way to invite a few people at a time onto the land to fulfill the ritual function.
