Do you know about Attic Rain? _____________________________________ Living in Calgary comes with it’s perks like warm Chinook winds but with these winds come many fluctuations in temperature; sometimes a difference of more that +/- 10 degrees in a single day! ... So, some simple science coming your way folks! When there is an increase in temperature it can cause any built-up attic frost or snow that has blown into the attic to melt quickly and come through the ceiling below. Think hot air rises and eventually turns into ice which eventually must come down and this is known as attic rain. Regular homeowner maintenance should be done to help prevent this issue in your home. As a solution, we recommend checking your attic during seasonal changes (2-3 times annually) to ensure insulation is dry and has not moved around from strong winds. If the insulation is wet, you can place a dehumidifier or fan in the area to help dry it out. If the insulation has moved, rake the areas to even them out. Always ensure you close your attic hatch after completing this check. Do not open it in extreme cold as this may worsen the attic rain! Remember, that all new homes come with Builder warranty and if you experience attic rain you should contact them immediately for assistance.
