Is your child coming home with low spelling test marks? Spelling is HARD. Especially if reading is a challenge for your child too. Did you know, that if you are a struggling reader, spelling will be poor? In fact, it's not fair to expect a child that is behind in their reading to be a good speller. Here are some encouraging words for you parents out there facing this challenge. You are NOT failing your child. The very reason you are concerned about it makes you an awesome p...arent. There aren’t enough resources on this topic. I hope I can offer some help. Lower your expectations. If your child gets 3 out of 10 correct. Celebrate that! Say "you got 3 right! let's try to get 4 next time!" Positive feedback like this will go a LONG way. Focus on one word at a time. It takes time to learn a new word for those with Characteristics of Dyslexia. If they slow down take their time to KNOW the word correctly. The better chance of them remembering it tomorrow. Get creative! Bring out a white board, sticky notes, sand on a baking sheet, block letters! Make it hands on and FUN! Take away that pencil and paper and let your child get creative. Get them to TEACH you!! The best way to learn is to teach it back! Make it FUN!!!! Always end on a good note. Stop if you find your loosing thier focus. If you push to hard, walls will go up. Most of all... focus on READING. When the reading levels go up. The spelling will follow with... If they struggle on assignments due to spelling help them with spelling so they can focus on the assignment.

Hello to all my followers! It has been a long time since I've posted on this page! The little cutie in my arms is our new family member, meet our adorable son, Arlo! He is three months old today! I am loving being this boys momma! I have also been thinking of all of my clients out there waiting for my return... already! I N C R E D I B L E testimony I received from a recent Irlen screening client. This message came to me the day after their appointment of a positive diagnosis of Irlen for their daughter. Hey! You may have noticed I have been a bit MIA... this is due to a couple of reasons. 1. COVID 19... 2. We are expecting our first baby the end of JULY! A combination of both have made it tough to gain more clients as they are a minimum of a 6 month commitment. It also isn't beneficial to begin lessons, just to take a break a couple of months later. ... A couple of updates... 1. I am making a "waiting list" for after baby to begin lessons up again. So far I am telling people I'll not be working for a least a minimum of 4 months. We will see how things all go! I will keep you updated if you are on my list! 2. I will still love to meet new inquiries over coffee and discuss your concerns and options as restrictions allow. 3. I offer lessons over Skype. Social distancing win...! 4. Happy 2020! Sorry I've been so quiet on here lately. There have been some new changes to my business. This is will affect my posting and current means of contact. __ As of now I will change the wording of my posts and how I speak of the term "Dyslexia." With respect the College of Physiologists regulatory body, I longer will say the term "Dyslexia." Now you will hear me say "The Characteristics of Dyslexia" OR "Comprehensive Reading Rehabilitation."... __ Nothing in my teaching techniques change, my job is still the same. Now all I will change is the way I say and write/post things. I do also need to change my email address, business logo and website.
