It's finally happened! The caterpillars have formed their chrysalis! Not the best camera angle but they cannot be disturbed while the chrysalis is developing. It is extremely delicate at this stage.

We finally have a butterfly! The others have yet to emerge, I hope some will wait until kids are here Monday! The red stuff in the cup is Gatorade, the paper towel soaks up the liquid and the butterflies drink it from there.

The chrysalis have been transferred to their flight cage, now we just spritz daily with water and wait...

This caterpillar is in a 'J' formation which hopefully means it is starting it's chrysalis (cocoon). They are supposed to start this in 7-10 days and we are in day 15, so should be any minute now.... The stuff in the bottom is food (a mix of toasted soy flour, plant matter, vitamins & minerals) and also their waste which I am very tempted to clean but have been told not too as disturbing the caterpillars can kill them. Looking closely in the containers, there is webbing around some of the caterpillars which actually means they are flourishing

I think they should be starting their cocoon any day now!

They are going to outgrow their little cups!

These little babies are growing before my eyes, moving around more today, it is hard to believe they will be butterflies in less than a month!

The larva are growing by the minute! They are each being raised individually in a little plastic cup with a lid. That is their special food at the bottom of the cup which they have not stopped eating, in about 4 weeks they will become a butterfly like the one in the picture.

We received a very special delivery today! Caterpillar larva the name of the butterfly they will become is Painted Lady. I think the caterpillars are already bigger tonight than they were when they arrived this morning! They have been eating non-stop since they arrived. Just like one of our favourite stories The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We have moved! We are very happy to be at our new location 231 Simms Road. Can't wait for the kids to come and enjoy all the space!

We spent some time this summer building a paper mache volcano.it ended with a little baking soda and vinegar reaction (maybe not quite the explosion the kids were expecting)

Feeling very grateful to have such caring, talented friends and neighbors! Not long ago my beautiful friend Jeannette dropped off a stunning sign she had made for me (logo design compliments of Cheyenne) and my amazingly talented neighbor Paulette has made the kids beautifully embroidered reading pillows and roll up chalk mats! Also not pictured, capes made out of scrap material for dress up which are a big hit! Cannot thank you all enough
