Meet the Class of March 2022 We celebrated our latest group of Ready Arc grads last week! There were many congrats, some life advice (i.e. speeches), and more than a few laughs. We fed them too, but forgot to photograph the grub before they dug in As this group of welders heads out into the world, they deserve huge congrats for how hard they worked, day in and day out for the last six months, in order to make it to this very special day. ... Last week was a big one for us, in so many ways! Firstly, congrats to these fine Local 73 members, who recently trained with us thanks to a new national training initiative through the CWB, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, and ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada). We're so proud to be helping break new ground as the only training centre on the East Coast to participate in this pilot project. "Filling the Gap" is a pressure welding skill advancement progr...am, designed to improve quality of training and build Red Seal pathways in the trades, and we couldn't be more excited to see this happen. http://www.boilermakerslocal73.ca/ https://www.cwbgroup.org//substantial-grant-will-create-pa

It’s Star Student Throwback Time! Meet Erica Sparks. Erica was one of our very first graduates under our new ownership many moons ago. She was also the very first to obtain her Red Seal after graduating from our program. She’s now living and working, and raising her family here in New Brunswick with her (also a welder) husband, something we think is worth celebrating! During her time with us at Ready Arc, way back when, Erica worked as a bartender until the wee hours of the... morning and still came to class ready to learn each and every day. We reached out to Erica to see how she’s doing these days and here’s what she had to say You could say welding is in my blood. I have many family members that are welders or pipefitters. I decided I wanted to be the first female in my family to do it and so it began. My time at Ready Arc was awesome. I learned what I needed to faster than other colleges and acquired more welding tickets. It was a hard course for me in the classroom but I had great help from my teachers and classmates. In the shop there was unlimited help as well, the teachers there really want you to succeed. When I graduated in February of 2014, I headed out west with my boyfriend to find work - first in Edmonton and then Fort Mac. We were out there about 9 months before coming home to New Brunswick. I got hired at a large shop for a few months, and then applied with a local union and was accepted. I was then able to go through the apprenticeship program, and within 3 years - I had my Red Seal. Being the first woman in the union’s history to go through apprenticeship for welding and acquire my journeyman status is something I am so so proud of. I've now worked at refineries, oil sands, nuclear plants, mills and shops and I’m still with them going strong. When I started welding I wanted to do it for the money, now I do it for my kids and my husband. I'm still learning every single day, and Ready Arc jumpstarted me and prepared me for this amazing career. For that, I am always grateful! - Erica

Star Student time again! We’re pumped to hear our grads' perspective on the course. Nothing beats first-hand feedback to help us move forward and offer the best welding program possible. Let's meet Matt! He looked around the internet after having somewhat of an epiphany one night, then decided Ready Arc was worth the drive from Fredericton (every day for 6 months). Let’s see how he feels about it now that he’s one of our grads... What were you up to before coming here? - I ...was working away, buffing cars and detailing interiors, stuff like that. It wasn’t bad, I just knew I didn’t want to do it forever. I had NEVER welded before I came here, but I’ve always been good with my hands and at problem-solving. I started looking around online, found Ready Arc, read the reviews and was intrigued. I drove down from Fredericton and sat down to talk with Jason. I was sold after that and knew it was only 6 months, so decided I could drive 1.5 hours every day for that long (not that leaving every day at 5:30am was easy!). Why Ready Arc? - A big thing for me was the time, the condensed 6 months vs a year anywhere else and that I would come out with more tickets than other programs. As soon as I saw the shop and met everybody I knew I wanted to come here. The small class and all the good reviews made it an easy decision. How was your six months with us? - Great! Steve, Butch and Jason are always nearby and ready to help, answer questions and show you how it’s done. If you're ahead, they let you be ahead and keep working. If you struggle, they do whatever it takes to help you catch up. I’ll be forever grateful for the skills and knowledge they gave me. The classroom was great too (even with COVID, we got everything done). We graduated ahead of schedule and it didn’t feel like we missed anything. We didn’t skip anything in class or the shop and came out fully prepared to start our careers. You made it to grad. What’s next? - I’d like to get on with a larger company, but I’ll take whatever I need to get my hours. I can be flexible because I know it will pay off later. It’ll all be worth it to just put my head down and work through my apprenticeship.

Ready Arc Training and Testing 02.09.2020

It’s that time again! Let's meet Star Students from our September class, who we’ve dubbed our most resilient class ever. They didn’t miss a beat, even after being sent home for a bit when COVID hit. They easily adjusted to the new normal and missed NOTHING from the curriculum. They made it to graduation day ahead of schedule. We think that’s worth celebrating. Let’s meet... Richard Teare. What were you up to before coming here? - I was welding for a company here in Saint ...John. I had just finished a steel fabrication course about 7-8 months beforebut I knew I wanted my pipe tickets too. Why welding? - To be honest, I love burning rods and being under the hood. I could weld all day long and be happy. And you know what? I actually like the challenge of getting down in the tough dirty spots where no one else wants to. Why Ready Arc? - Compared to my previous experience, I think other courses aren’t where they should be, like spending way more time in the classroom than the shop and feeling like I was just pushing wire when I was in the shop. The Ready Arc experience is SO much better, and you get tons of time in the shop. The # of tickets you get here put it over the top for me so many more than other programs. How were your six months with us? - Awesome. This is such a great place to be and learn. The atmosphere is good, and the instructors drive and push you to give it your all. They really mean it when they say they want to produce the best welders here it’s obvious once you’re here, learning from the pros. You made it to graduation day. What’s next? - I’m looking forward to taking the next steps in an apprenticeship, progressing in the trade and my welding career. My ultimate goal is to get my Red Seal, and then turn back to steel fabrication and get my Red Seal in that too. Down the road, I’d even like to open my own business. I’m lucky enough to have a flexible position with a local shop that will also allow me to pursue a spot on a call list, which gives me a backup plan for steady work. Plus, I get a little bit of everything there as far as experience, and I need all the experience I can get my hands on to make the most of my career.

Ready Arc Training and Testing 03.08.2020

We spent Friday morning celebrating our September 2020 Grads We're calling them our most resilient class ever. They were dealt the 2020 COVID hand and missed weeks of classes while we were shut down. They returned, adapted to new rules like face coverings and social distancing, and came out the other side with flying colours. We only added an extra week to the course, and every student in our class finished up with all the shop requirements and the full classroom curriculu...m they needed to finish with all their tickets and everything they needed to graduate and start their new careers in welding. Let's give them a hand for all they've accomplished!
