We recently had the opportunity to paint inside Edmonton’s most iconic gathering place - The Edmonton Convention Centre . The building has a state of the art sustainability program and were also impressed by all the bio diversity initiatives happening at this Edmonton gem. Did you know that the building is home to a Monarch Butterfly Preservation Garden and urban beehive ? . Our mural is based on a Cree syllabic: kistêýihcikâtêw meaning Honour. It refers to honourin...g the life that is in every living being and taking only as much as you need in order to honour that spirit. It also implies that our land is of the utmost importance. . The mural was designed to include some of the flora and fauna of the Edmonton River Valley in a new style we have never done before. Designed using a cut out collage format, we wanted it to have a ‘vintage calendar’ vibe with the background to look like those classic ‘paint by number’ paintings. . We are very excited with how it turned out and are so thankful for the opportunity to share this mural with so many. Thank you @edmontonconventioncentre. A major challenge for any artist is collaborating with others to make one cohesive piece. . Last summer we teamed up with our talented friends Keith and Judy of @vanguardstudios to help bring their bold mural concept to life. . This architectural style uses only black and white shapes that fracture across two sides of the building with broad and precise line work. A simple design that requires a Zen approach to painting.... . It was a great experience working alongside such lovely people and we are extremely happy with the outcome. .
