As a former Banker I continue to have a lasting respect for the Canadian banking system and monitor rates, yields and money supply regularly. This article articulates the Covid housing landscape quite well. My main point of optimism for our market is low rates, Cheap rent for cash is filling the market with activity that may not have taken place otherwise. My main point of caution right now is inflation, the Federal government has printed so much money this year that inflation will be inevitable. I just pray our central bank has sense enough to start curbing this activity before its $50 for a loaf of bread.

August yet again, 37% increase in units sold and prices up 15% YOY for Niagara region as a whole. My explanation is we have such pent up demand from a normal 8-9 month selling season has been compressed into 4 month, a lot of cheap lending out there many brokers can lock in 5 year fixed for less than 2%, And the jobs seriously effected by covid such were mostly not qualified to purchase in the first place, meaning most buyers are highly qualified and highly motivated. Finally Covid has pushed businesses to discover that they do not require staff physically in the GTA making Barrie, Kingston and Niagara to be prime targets for Torontonians to work remotely. Do you blame them? Here in Niagara I say good morning to all my neighbours on my morning jog. Little things.
