Scarborough has always had a special place in my heart. Unmatched diversity and arguably some of the best food on the planet. An American economist from New York City, one of the major food capitals of the world, recently stated, I concluded Scarborough is the best ethnic food suburb I have seen in my life, ever, and by an order of magnitude I truly believe Scarborough has an unlimited potential for growth but one of the key barriers to unlocking this growth pot...ential is the lack of walkable neighbourhoods and the reliance on a vehicle to get around! This is beginning to change with new developments focused on walkable, live/work communities being proposed all over Scarborough. The Golden Mile Redevelopment plan is one such development that will change Scarborough for the better. Who else remembers shopping at the NoFrills in Golden Mile as a kid? With the new Crosstown Eglinton LRT opening in less than 2 years, the Golden Mile area, which includes land on Eglinton Ave E stretching from Victoria Park to Birchmount Rd will be completely redeveloped into a mixed-use walkable community The project, designed by @gpaia , includes ten new residential towers ranging from 25 to 48 storeys tall. The proposal is planned around a new, pedestrian-friendly street grid. Golden Mile Boulevard will form the central spine of this new grid and it will be the Main Street of this community with retail stores, and a Central Square! I am excited to see how this will transform the rest of Scarborough! Woodside Square Mall located at McCowan/Finch in Scarborough will be following in the footsteps of other shopping centres around Toronto by developing their existing parking lot into a mixed-use community. Woodside Square Mall opened in 1977 and contains tenants such as LCBO, Food Basics, Shoppers Drug Mart, Saravana Bhavan and Woodside Cinemas. The proposed development will add six high-rise buildings, ranging in height from 23 to 38 storeys. This will add 2,589 resi...dential units and thousands of square metres of retail and office space. My personal favourite in this development is the 4 privately owned publicly accessible spaces (POPS) which are essentially public parks maintained by the developers. The McDonald’s at the corner of McCowan/Finch will be demolished and replaced by a square which will contain a fountain, and two patios. I love how suburban areas in the Toronto area have begun to densify in recent years. This is just another example of this continuing trend. This is a proposed project which will be located at a @smartcentresreit shopping plaza near Brock Rd/401 in pickering. @smartcentresreit will transform a 48 acre site located just 5 minutes away from Pickering Go Station and the new Durham Live entertainment centre. The first phase will see the northeast corner of Brock Rd and Pi...ckering Parkway, currently two retail buildings and a surface parking lot, redeveloped into a two tower residential project. As of now, the buildings will be 33 and 34 storeys with a a retail podium connecting them. We are so lucky to live in a city with so many amazing restaurants! This place is hands-down the best Thai in Toronto and if you’ve never been, you’re missing out. Anytime anyone from out of town visits Toronto, their trip isn’t complete without me taking them to Pai! I usually get the Pad Grow Prow which is absolutely delicious, as... well as their special Pad Thai and the amazing green curry which comes in a coconut! I love it spicy so I ask for Phet Mak Mak, but if you can’t handle too much spice, I would suggest medium.
