Its getting harder to remember as the members of my family who fought or were directly affected are dying. I miss my Grandma Lloyd, né Jones, who spoke of the war most. She was my lifeline to the rattling of the bones and crushing of the heart and the loss experienced by those who lived through it. She would tell the story of her house being bombed while her mum was inside and how she ran home to find her mum standing in the driveway "sausages covered in soot" as she had been cooking in the back of the house... all that remained. She married a Canadian Soldier, left England for Canada. And here we are prosperous. The memories fade but her story does live on and we live on keeping her spirit alive.
