Rebel Roots Herb Farm 30.01.2021

Anise Hyssop is all harvested and hanging in the drying room. Once again I feel a sadness for the bees as I cart away the flowers they love so very much. I know they'll move on and find another flower to swoon over but I just imagine them going back to their hive and doing their little bee dance and it ends with some interpretive dance move that lets all the other bees know that some human just cut them down and lugged them away. Shaking their little bee fist in the air . #herbfarm #sorrybees #beenstungafewtimeslately #probablywhy

On our farm we do need to weed our herb beds. Often these weeds we pull are amaranth ( pigweed), lamb's quarters, thistles and grasses. If we didn't, our herbs would quickly be smothered out by these fast growing, prolific plants. We sometimes have to remove the odd Milkweed as well. But we can't help but keep a lot of them. This time of year when I see so many monarch caterpillars munching the leaves of this gorgeous plant I am reminded why I do. #regenerativefarming #we'renottheonlyspeciesthatcallthisplanthome

So thankful for these lovely souls who responded to my call for help and committed to coming to the farm to help out. So much weeding and harvesting was accomplished and we had a great time to boot! Violet, never one to miss out on an opportunity to take part in adult conversations while picking flowers joined us after her day at @wildpathforestschool #lovelyday #lovelyclouds #lovelypeople
