Just incase you needed a few reasons to treat yourself to a massage this summer: 1. ARE YOU EXERCISING OR DOING MORE YARD WORK? Increased activity can lead to muscle strain and I can help! Don't believe me? I'll let this New York Times article convince you - detailing research on how massage therapy not only eases pain, but also helps in muscle repair. If you find yourself reaching for anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. Advil) to ease muscle pain, note that prolonged use of... NSAIDS have negative side effects where massage therapy can suppress inflammation AND help in cell recovery. https://well.blogs.nytimes.com//how-massage-heals-sore-mu/ 2. MASSAGE BOOSTS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. I can't guarantee it will prevent you from catching a contagious virus, of course, but this research shows that massage therapy increased T-cell production in mice and it is these white blood cells that help you fight infections. If there's a chance it could help with dreaded summer bugs or a crazy new virus, massage therapy is a pretty fantastic-feeling way to help boost your immune system. Massage-like stroking boosts the immune system in mice: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26046935/ 3. SWELLING FROM HEAT & HUMIDITY. For some folks, summertime weather can bring swelling. Prolonged standing or sitting in hot weather can cause excess fluid to accumulate in the feet, ankles and lower legs. Elevation, compression and exercise can certainly help, but massage therapy is another option for you. With manual lymphatic drainage training, I can certainly assist you in a gentle, relaxing way. Or maybe you just need a relaxing BREAK/ESCAPE from the increased home time with the kiddos. We've made lots of improvements to keep you safe this summer and look forward to seeing you soon. Due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic, Reboot Massage Therapy will be discontinuing services effective today, March 18, 2020 and will re-assess in hopes of resuming on Monday, April 6th, 2020. Though I've uber-prepared and feel I can provide services safely, everything is shutting down and I think the best way to stop this virus from spreading is to stay home and discontinue non-essential services for the next few weeks. I hope you agree with me and that things settle soon. ...I will go ahead and cancel your appointments online and request that you respond to the cancelation notice so I know you've received the message. I will phone anyone I haven't received a response from. Should you have any questions regarding the coronavirus, please click on the link below or refer to a really great fact sheet for Nova Scotian's at the second link. https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/ https://novascotia.ca/coro/COVID-19-Fact-Sheet-Families.pdf Take care everyone, hope to see you soon

Reboot Massage Therapy 19.05.2020

Hi Folks, I've been on my March break at home here and after much debate, preparation, discussions with colleagues and clients and a phone-in chat with Dr. Robert Strang on the radio this morning saying that the province does not recommend this type of service discontinue at this time, I've decided to keep my scheduled clinic hours for tomorrow - Friday. You will likely receive an email and see a post from me on Friday regarding a two week (likely longer) closure. Do not ...come if you have a fever higher then 38deg and/or a new cough that is getting progressively worse or if you have travelled within the last 14 days. My co-workers and I continually disinfect and launder any areas that we or you have been in contact with and have increased the frequency of disinfecting in the shared areas. I have purchased a vinyl cover for the heating pad so that you will still be warm, but have removed any padding between the table and sheets as well as the headrest. The two chairs in the lobby have been separated and all treatment items (towels & cups for eg) in my treatment room will be stored in the cabinet rather then out in the open. I will be wearing a mask, gloves and possibly goggles (lol) and will avoid any skin to skin contact during treatment. I would like to avoid cash transactions, so debit/credit payments only please. To be continued... https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/

To anyone who uses disposable gloves - Seaboard Industrial Supply Co., Ltd. said they are able to offer these powder free, biodegradable gloves for $13.93/box of 100 (50 pairs). This is a lot cheaper then ordering them online ($21.95 on amazon). So if you want to use gloves that apparently break-down in 8-11 years instead of like 200 years, then contact Tim at Seaboard to order. Thanks Tim :)

It's been a 'draining' week lol! I'm feeling great and you can too! Just to let you know that I've recently been certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage - Applied MLD (Level 2). Though these techniques are mostly known for treating lymphedemas and those with damaged lymph vessels (Level 3 MLD Certification), I can currently help clients with functional lymph vessel systems affected by a variety of conditions, including the following: whiplash, burns, migraines, chronic s...inusitis, epicondylitis, Meniere's Syndrome, tinnitus, CRPS (early stages), stroke, sprains, strains, knee arthroplasty, cruciate ligament repair, osteoarthritis, adhesive capsulitis and hip pathologies. The following link explains the effects of MLD: Decongestive, Sympatholytic (relaxing), Analgesic (can help with pain management) and potentially an Immunological effect. You can click through the links to the left to find detail on technique and on what issues are indicated & contraindicated. https://www.lymphedema-clinic.com/manual-lymph/effects.html Though there is a lot of research to be done in this field of treatment, here are some links to a few that you might be interested in: The following study indicates that MLD in the early postoperative stages after a total knee arthroplasty (replacement) appears to improve active knee flexion up to 6 weeks post surgery, in addition to conventional care. https://www.archives-pmr.org//S0003-9993(13)00461/fulltext The findings of the following study indicate that the application of MLD was effective in reducing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system (stress response), anxiety, pain, and increasing the pressure pain threshold. https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org//49275c447ee4eb6136bd0fdc The importance of the study below is that it is the first to show the influence of MLD on lactic acid. The results demonstrate that MLD might be effective at removing blood lactate and some muscle enzymes after submaximal exercise: https://www.archives-pmr.org//S0003-9993(13)00461/fulltext Neat little video showing the initial lymph vessels taking in fluid and pushing it through to the collector vessels. https://vodderschool.com/lymph_vessel_system

Great to see the NS government taking steps toward the regulation of the Massage Therapy profession and protecting the public by working with MTANS to introduce the Title Protection Legislation. Until now, anyone could legally use the title "Massage Therapist." But now you must have a reputable 2200 hours of schooling, have liability insurance, membership in good standing in a recognized professional association and provide information on criminal charges or convictions. This Registered Massage Therapist fits all of the above criteria and has some last minute openings this week! TODAY: 4:30pm, Tomorrow (Wed. Oct 16): 3:15pm, Thursday: 10:45am, 2:15pm, Friday: 10:15am

Did you know, October is Tech Neck Awareness Month? Here's the take-home points: Most Canadians (including kids) use computers, smartphones and tablets for ...hours every day. Technology is overwhelmingly good... but also comes with some significant negative consequences. The physical consequences often result in us hunched over (aka 'Tech Neck'), creating stress on our spine and the nerve system inside. Not only does this contribute to things like neck pain, shoulder problems and headaches, it's also associated with mental health problems like depression, anxiety, fatigue and even issues with self-confidence. Our biggest concern is the amount of time kids are spending in this posture (called 'Anterior Head Syndrome'), and the effect this can have on their health over time. Here are 3 simple exercises that can really help to ease your 'tech neck.' Share with your family and friends!
