One of the major hurdles to solar fully taking off as the primary and "base load" power source is... well... the night time. The eggheads down in south africa have proven a solution. This 50MW power generation station uses the daytimes excess energy to heat large containers of molten salt, then uses the molten salt heat to power turbines overnight.
