"There's been no awareness campaign to encourage people to even seek recovery and seek treatment," "We need to take a look at the idea that recovery is possible and attractive, and even offered. In most cases, it's not even offered in this province anymore. Treatment is like a last resort. It should be the first resort." https://www.cbc.ca///overdose-suburbs-prevention-1.5768848

Liberal Party Votes No to support Recovery From Addiction. NDP VOTED YES Conservatives VOTED YES Bloc Québécois VOTED YES Greens VOTED YES... Liberals VOTED NO For years a group of people in Recovery have been trying to connect with Health Canada and the Minister of Health Patty Hajdu to discuss how Recovery Oriented Systems of Care are being considered in response to the Overdose Crisis. We were finally invited to Ottawa in March 2020, but our group got ghosted and we were sent to Health Canada's office to meet with bureaucrats to talk about about how the recovery community can be engaged in future responses to the overdose crisis. We were told "Recovery is not the mandate the federal government has right now, only harm reduction, and if we want that changed we would need to get parliamentarian support" then we were asked to leave. That actually happened. The next day in Ottawa we meant with MP Peter Julian and explained what had happened. We all sat over dinner and came up with the idea of a Recovery Month Motion that would allow Canada to become part of an INTERNATIONAL movement. here are hundreds of thousands of people who gather during this month to bring awareness to all things recovery - bringing hope to people who are still struggling. Raise awareness that recovery is possible... and never lose sight of that. Since that day, hundreds of letters and phone calls to MPs across Canada by mostly Recovery Day volunteers from Halifax to Vancouver. On March 7, Motion M-40 was brought to the house for unanimous consent. The Liberal Party voted NO Why? would they say no? Thousands dead, no recovery plan from Ottawa, We will regroup, take lead from the Pride Movement decades ago, Recognition is power Community engagement is power Recovery must be a priority to combat Canada's addiction crisis, Recovery is a priority for every other health care issue. We will not forget Winnipeg MP Kevin Lamoureux who led the NO vote We will not forget how the lived experience recovery community has been left out of Canada's overdose response let's talk about the elephant in the room, there is a divide in this country between Harm Reduction and Recovery.... we are trying to break down that divide... but this NO VOTE is further proof that the recovery community is not invited to the table by the Liberal Party of Canada | Parti libéral du Canada. #RecoveryMonth #RecoveryDay #RecoveryisPossible #WeExist email [email protected] if you wish to be invited to future meetings... We will one day have a Recovery Month recognized in Canada, through education and awareness, we will make it okay together to ask for help, and say proudly, I'm in recovery with no fear of judgement or stigma. www.RecoveryMonthCanada.com
