From the staff at Recovery Works- we wish you a very happy New Year.

When you have a craving take the following steps: -Stop whatever it is you are doing immediately and remove yourself from the person, place, or situation that may have triggered the thoughts. -While completing step one above, ask for help from your Higher Power.... -Short-circuit your thinking by challenging the ‘using’ thoughts. What will be the sequence of events from that moment until you are through your using cycle? Play the tape through to the end. How will it feel emotionally? Physically? What will you say to your family and employer? -Contact someone your sponsor or a friend in recovery and tell him or her what has happened. Nearly every person in recovery experiences cravings in some form or other.

Euphoric Recall is the process of thinking favourably about your past using. The addict’s memory can become very selective. Your thinking focuses on how good it was and minimizes the negative consequences. Magical Thinking is the belief that you can use socially, in some controlled fashion or just one more time. You question whether or not you are really dependent. You deny your powerlessness. This time it will be different. Both are dangerous and must be recognized as soon as it starts happening. Speak thoughts out loud or confide in a therapist or loved one to call yourself out and stop these wishful thoughts.

Did you know that a healthy outlet is taking time to write down your feelings throughout the day? It will help you to process your feelings by identifying and owning them, especially if you feel overwhelmed. Talking to your sponsor, a friend or praying about them will also help immensely. It is all about communicating honestly with yourself and your higher power.

ALL ALCOHOLICS ARE NOT FALLING DOWN DRUNKS. Some people don’t fit the stereotypical image. They: -May hold responsible jobs. -Always show up for work.... -Are well liked by other employees. -Have no legal consequences. -Never drink until after 5pm. Take our self-assessments for alcohol disorders and drug addiction to get insight into your health. https://bit.ly/3pvmMQo

A drug detox program is ideal for people who are about to begin an alcohol or drug rehabilitation program. Detoxification usually lasts for between seven and 10 days. You’ll follow a strict routine using our withdrawal management services and have the chance to make new friends. With our detox services, medically qualified staff are available around-the-clock to meet and address the addicted individual’s withdrawal needs.... Detox isn’t a cure for drug or alcohol addiction, but in many cases it’s an essential foundation for successful treatment. Click to book a free consultation with an addiction expert if you have any questions. We'd love to help.

Make sure you're taking care of yourself, especially if you are in recovery. Stress, poor diet, insomnia, loneliness, lousy self-image and boredom can all cause emotional stress that’s difficult to cope with. Some people turn to drugs or alcohol as a means of escaping from overwhelming or painful feelings. As such, you must make a marked effort to minimize the risk of falling victim to the triggers mentioned above. Self-care is about listening to what your mind and body need... and actively looking after yourself. Sometimes, you get into habits and patterns of behaviour that aren’t constructive or conducive to positive change. By making sure you’re disciplined enough to eat healthily and get regular exercise, you can avoid most of the feelings that drive you to use. Spending your free time pursuing meaningful hobbies that you find fulfilling gives you further protection against low self-esteem.

"While many may start using as a means to simply get high, others seek the high to smother the difficulties they face in life. They use in an effort to shut off what they cannot determine as a form of mental illness, even if it is as simple as an anxiety disorder." Fight the addiction, not the addict. We're here to help whenever you may need it. Source: vertavahealth

"I came to Recovery Works knowing I had a problem with Alcohol. I left knowing I had a solution. At first getting on a plane and going to get help was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make... but it has proven to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. The AMAZING staff and holistic program helped me to truly find myself again in so many ways. I found answers to my problem, true inner peace through the yoga, meditation and discourse in group session...s. I found friends for life who truly cared about the roots of what was going on in my behaviour. I got back into top physical shape through proper diet and exercise with world class trainers. Did I mention... the food was incredible!? I am very proud to call myself an alumnus of Recovery Works and HIGHLY recommend for anyone seeking a fundamental change in their life to have the courage and love for themselves to take advantage of the miracle that this beautiful home in Victoria BC offers. Paul, Lowell and Connor: I thank you from the bottom of my heart " -Phil L. (Facebook Review & RWC Alumnus) Thanks for sharing your experience in such great detail. We loved witnessing your growth. We wish you the best.

Remember your attitude is half of success: "When you focus on problems, you get more problems. When you focus on possibilities, you have more opportunities." You can't always control bad situations, but you can control how you react to them.

Out in the world and in the chaos of life it can be difficult to maintain your focus with all the distractions. What rehab does is eliminate (to the best of our ability) the distractions. Our residence is private and restricts any unwanted outside influences. It’s an environment where you can feel comfortable and safe while you focus on healing and recovery. If you know someone going through a rough time, send them a little extra love today. Little messages such as this one are a great way to do something small, yet thoughtful, for someone. Send that person a text or a DM to let them know they are loved. You never know if someone truly needs it to get through the day. #recoverycommunitysupport #fillyourheartwithlove #letlovein

He was on a downward spiral and Recovery Works has managed to turn him in the right direction, saving him and giving him a brighter outlook for the future. Thank you to the staff at Recovery Works Canada." -RWC Review
