5 Star: Anonymous "Dim Sum was fantastic.. Took 36 people to Red Star for Dim Sum and it was incredible! The staff were friendly and helpful. The orders came out to the right people, everything was delicious.I was amazed how they handled that large of a crowd. I just moved here from Calgary a few years ago and this restaurant compares to the best Dim Sum restaurants there. The Shrimp and Chive dumplings were so good had to get two orders of them, better than any I have had in... Calgary, New York,San Francisco, or Vancouver. The barbeque pork pancakes were cooked just right. The vegetables in oyster sauce were cooked perfectly, slight crunch and still vibrant green. The sticky rice, shrimp on green pepper with black bean sauce were excellent. I was curious as to why all of a sudden bad reviews on Urbanspoon and found out that a new restaurant is opening and is putting out all sorts of bad reviews, as they are hoping for the same clientele. It is true that the service was a little slow a few months ago, as they had some staff changes, but the food and in particular the dim sum items I have had over the months has been consistently good. There have never been staff problems during the day that I am aware of , and the slowness of the night staff has been remedied. Don't let the marketing ploy of a new restaurant deter you from trying Red Star. I have tried all of the Chinese Buffets in Red Deer and found them to be inedible to mediocre.
