The Redcliff Motor Co. produced about 20 trucks before production was halted in 1914. Production was halted because the factory was converted to start production of 25 pound shells (as seen below) to be used by the Canadian army during WWI. Once the war ended, the plant never resumed its production of trucks, and was eventually converted to Alberta potteries, which eventually became Medalta Potteries. Now thats a building with a lot of history! Next trivia question: I-XL industries Ltd. had brick and clay manufacturing plants in both Redcliff and Medicine Hat. The parent brick plant of I-XL opened in 1912 and became I-XL in 1960. What was the name of the brick company in Redcliff before it became I-XL?

Gordon Memorial United Church The first Presbyterian congregation met for services in the cookhouse of Redcliff Brick and coal company in 1907. By 1910, construction on a small structure for the Presbyterian congregation had begun. Their Minister, Charles Samuel Oke, conducted the first service August 15 1910, even though the new church had no roof!... In autumn 1911, Reverend G. Lawson Gordon became Minister of the church. He lived in a lean-to at the back of the church for a year and a half until the manse could be built. He served Redcliffs Presbyterians until his death in 1919. By 1913, the congregation had outgrown their first building and moved services to the Empress Theatre. Directed by Reverend Gordon, a new basement was dug and poured. However, before any more work could be completed, World War One broke out. World War One prevented continued construction on the new Presbyterian church. It was not until 1920 that walls and a roof were erected. The church was completed October 9, 1921. In 1925, the Presbyterian Church agreed to join the United Church of Canada, and they changed their name to Gordon Memorial United Church. In 1961, a new manse was constructed for the Minister. In 1964, a new wing was built onto the church for their expanded congregation, and education program.

St. Mary of The Annunciation The first Catholic Masses in Redcliff was offered in 1910 in private residences, usually Patrick Lavelles home, approximately once a month. The catholic population of Redcliff was hurt by the depression of 1914, when many factories closed up, and people moved away.... During the First World War, Mass was offered on a monthly basis in various halls around tow, including Maple Leaf Hall, Crows Hall, and the Reid Building. In 1920, the Presbyterians sold their old church building to the Catholics for a sum of $500. Both denominations used the church for a short period. In 1921, the Catholics moved the old Presbyterian Church to their property on 6th Street and 3rd Avenue. The ladies Altar Society, later known as the Catholic Womens League, were an important group of ladies in the community and within the church. They held various fundraisers and social activities. Mass was still only offered twice a month because Redcliff did not have a resident Priest. In 1962-63 a new Catholic Church was built. Reverend John G. Schuster was ordained on May 1, 1965. He then celebrated the first Mass in this church on May 2, 1965. As part of a wider downsizing in the Catholic Church, St. Marys was closed in 2001. Parishioners now travel to Medicine Hat to attend mass.

St. Ambrose Anglican Church During the first decade of the 1900s, Anglican services were held in Redcliff intermittently by visiting ministers.... In 1913, Reverend J. W. Cunliffe recommended Redcliff become a separate parish, and later that year began searching for a suitable site and funds to erect a permanent church, at that time, Reverend H. C. B. Gibson became the first vicar of the Redcliff area. Redcliff Realty Company donated four lots (a value of approximately $2000) for construction of an Anglican church, with the condition that a building worth $7000 would be constructed within two years. Only one thousand dollars could be raised locally to build the Anglican church, so Reverend Gibson travelled to England to raise funds. Gibson managed to raise $6000 in the parish of Bournemouth. In Return for the generosity of the Bournemouth people, Reverend Gibson named the Redcliff church after their parish church, St. Ambrose. Upon Gibsons return, a temporary parish hall was built to hold the Sunday School and services. In July 1914, the contract for construction was let to W. Rolfe of Medicine Hat for $4278. Redcliff Clay Products provided klinker bricks for $7 per thousand. In December 1914, St. Ambrose Anglican Church was completed and opened. In 2008, St. Ambrose Anglican Church was designated a Provincial Historic Resource. To learn more about Redcliffs churches, come in to the Museum, were happy to answer all questions
