Red Deer Eats

I’m often asked where my favorite #local brunch spot is. We are fortunate in Red Deer to have some killer breakfast spots but I’m going to go with @westlake_grill In addition to amazing service, private and intimate tables (also very respectful of distancing and Covid protocols btw) they just GET amazing food for brunch, lunch and dinner. I recently had the Stuffed Waffle Cone for brunch and it was incredible! I love when restaurants think outside of the box and get so creative with their dishes and create something I would never have thought of; a dish I can’t or wouldn’t have thought to put together at home, but they also nail the classics. In my opinion it’s what takes an average or good restaurant and makes it phenomenal. Do you have a favorite brunch spot in Central Alberta? Let’s support LOCAL today and everyday

If you’re like me, you find a good Fish ‘n Chips at a restaurant and you’re a customer for life (if you’ve ever had a bad Fish ‘n Chips you know what I mean ) As a Maritimer, I’d like to think I know a great fish dish and I gotta tell you @cilantro_chive just gets me... Perfectly paired with fries, homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw, and fish so light and flaky with a crispy batter as it should be. Not to mention their iconic Caesar Flight Board (swipe ) Have I got ya drooling yet? As many of you saw in my stories, live #local music is alive and well in our downtown I received SO MANY responses from you wanting more information on these outstanding evenings. The restaurants along the Ross Street patio: @tribeflatout @occamsrazorrd @capitolpkgstore @tacoloft have hosted Open Mic Nights to GREAT success over the summer. I can honestly say I have never seen our downtown like this! The mood was INCREDIBLE! Phenomenal food, drinks, and an intimate atmosph...ere. It was a perfect girls night! My friends had Moscow Mules and I enjoyed a very dirty Gin Martini (is there any other way to have a martini?) @capitolpkgstore They are connected to the ever popular @thevelvetolive and have introduced a brand new menu (swipe to ) I have been told Open Mic nights are slated to continue Thursday’s from 7-11 (weather permitting) until the removal of the @cityofreddeer Ross Street Patio . These nights have been a GAME CHANGER for our local downtown restaurants; especially during this time with extra Covid related restrictions. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended. Our downtown has been known to have a bad reputation, but it must be said I felt totally and completely safe during my visit and had a wonderful evening. I’ve personally met every one of the business owners of these respective restaurants and let me tell you, they are the most hardworking, genuine and passionate people. Caramelized pineapple, shredded pork, smoked brisket, house made hot sauce (plus some incredible taco sauce in the tacos ), giant delicious margaritas (think jalapeño and pomegranate and lime)... need I say more?! I know, I know, it’s taken me WAY too long to get to Dark Woods Brewing in Innisfail, but let me tell you it was 100% worth the wait This cozy, beautiful brewery is place to gather often. The homey and spacious two floor brewery includes a fireplace, double balcony overlooking Innisfail’s Main Street, a ping pong table and big screen TVs to catch the summer playoffs! They serve coffee, craft beer and caesars as they should be: spicy, muddy and FULL OF FOOD! I can see this great #local place becoming a regular stop, and a perfect one for the long weekend.
