Where did the week go?! Join us this weekend for another Sunday Service. Its a chance to connect with God, one another, and ourselves, and experience the love, grace, and peace that renews us from the inside out. This week Rev Nick is helping us explore this wild story about when an evil spirit interrupted Jesus first sermon. You can find that story here: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/... See you Sunday at 10am MST.

This Sunday marks the fourth Sunday after the Epiphany and on Family Friday we continue reading from Mark. Read Mark 1:21-22 and think, talk or journal about these questions: Think of a time you learned something new. What was that like? What makes a good teacher? ... When did you feel astounded by a new perspective? What do you think it means to have authority? How do you decide on whose authority to trust in your life? A closing prayer . . . God of new things, you surprise and astound us throughout our lives. We learn so much through you and your Son, Jesus. Help us learn and be open to new ways of seeing your great world. Amen

Don’t miss this event the first in Affirm United's Kitchen Sink series for 2021: Tuesday February 16, 2021 from 7:00-8:30pm with host Pam Rocker. "For our first event of the year we’re asking you to join us in the kitchen where we will be serving up a Virtual Pancake Supper on Zoom with entertainment from Pam Rocker and a friendly cook-off in two home kitchens! We’ll also get to talk about P.I.E. Day 2021 and what’s cooking there. Of course no Zoom event is complete without... some fun ice breakers and time to chat with each other! We’ll make sure this happens at the beginning and end of the program!" More about Pam: Pam Rocker is an atypical activist, award winning writer, speaker, and musician. Pam has worked for a decade for the full inclusion of LGBTQ2S+ people in faith communities and beyond. She was chosen as one of the Top 40 Under 40 in Calgary, and as one of the top 30 activists in Canada. She was a frequent panelist on CBC Radio’s Unconventional Panel, is the Chair of Broadview Magazine, and Co-Host of the Sacred and Profane podcast. She is currently the Director of Affirming Connections and speaks and plays across the country. More info at: pamrocker.com

A message of hope from the Red Deer Lake United Church Choir. My Soul Cries Out, with a traditional Irish melody and haunting lyrics by Rory Cooney, is a paraphrase of the Magnificat, Luke 1:46-55. https://youtu.be/nvaOsH0HffY

Days are allowed to suck. Your day doesn’t have to be productive or meet certain requirements. Sometimes it can just be a total write off. If, at some point today, you find yourself going "ARRRGH!" because today is one of those days, remember this:... You are not your day. You are not the write off. You are not what sucks. Don’t confuse the two. Who you are and what you're worth is not measured by what you produce and what you do. It's Family Friday! In today’s scripture from Psalm 123, the Psalmist is asking God to show them mercy. According to Confessing the Beatitudes by Margaret Aymer, mercy involves feeling compassion or emotion when faced with another’s pain, acting on that person’s behalf to show care, and showing an ongoing commitment to someone even after the crisis has passed. The psalmist and their people have been through a lot. They have faced unkindness. They have faced judgment and they ...have even faced dismissal from others. They are hoping for God to show them something else, something better. Imagine with them what God’s mercy looks like. What do you feel like when you need mercy? Who in the world and in your life needs mercy right now? Who can you show mercy to? How would that look? Read more at https://reddeerlakeuc.com/family-fridays

Due to rising COVID-19 numbers and in response to the guidance of the United Church and Alberta doctors, we have cancelled our in-person service this Sunday. While we were looking forward to being together, we believe this is the safe and loving thing to do. Please watch this short video from Rev. Nick regarding this decision: https://youtu.be/2NCa5vB-Zic
