Hello Medicine Hat! We've been getting many calls in to our Recycling Centre and Bottle Depot, asking if and when we are closing. We believe there is some confusion out there, due to the removal of the big green recycling bins from off of the lot immediately adjacent to the Recycling Centre on South Railway Street. ... Those Recycling Bins will indeed soon be gone, but our Recycling Centre and Bottle Depot isn't going anywhere! We've been in Medicine Hat since 1977, and at the current location since the late 90's. We're here to stay, and welcome everyone to continue to bring us your recyclable bottles and cans for refunds as you always have. (or...you can use our new pickup service if you prefer not to make a trip to us!)

This is Rae. She's one of our fantastic volunteers who, pre-pandemic, would come in weekly to clean materials from our collection that needed a little extra TLC.... Because we're limiting the number of people in our building right now, we haven't seen Rae - or any of our other amazing volunteers - since mid-March. If you're one of the 278 volunteers who donated your time to our library in the past year, please know that we miss you dearly and can't wait to see you again! This brings up another important point: Because we're currently operating without our fantastic volunteers, we're unable to take book donations right now and we can't deliver books to our usual outreach locations (city buses, the airport, Gas City Campground, etc). The return date of these services is TBD.

The REDI Recycling Centre and Bottle Depot is excited to roll out our new Household Beverage Container Pickup Service, starting on June 1st, and WE CAN START TAKING BOOKINGS TODAY!! Here how! (its easy) You call the REDI Bottle Depot at 403-526-9344 or email at [email protected] with your request. Well need your contact info, and a good estimate of how many bags of containers you have. Well book you in for a day in the near future; often just a day or two off.... Leave your bagged containers out in a pre-arranged location on the arranged pickup date. We pick them up, count them, and send you your refund payment. You never need to set foot in a bottle depot. Thats it! Just call 403-526-9344 or email [email protected] to request a pickup and enjoy the convenience and security of having REDI do the hard work for you!

Until further notice, the REDI Bottle Depot will be reducing our services and hours of operation. Were very happy to see that the good people of Medicine Hat are taking social distancing seriously, in an effort to reduce the local impact of the global COVID-19 outbreak. With the reduced traffic, we will be limiting our hours to the following: Monday CLOSED Tuesday CLOSED Wednesday - 9:30am-4:30pm... Thursday - 9:30am-4:30pm Friday - 9:30am-4:30pm Saturday - 9:30am-4:30pm Sunday - CLOSED In addition, REDI is not booking any bottle drives until the situation has resolved. There are limitations being placed on our commercial pickup service as well to accommodate business reductions/closures, and reduce chances for exposure or transmission. Should you wish to return your beverage containers, there are a few additional measures that we have taken in the facility to discourage the spread of any possible contagions. While our container handlers always wear gloves to avoid any skin contact, we have added medical-grade gloves to the personal protective equipment of anyone handling cash or exchanging cash and receipts with customers. There is a plexiglass barrier in between the clerk and the customer during that transaction that should reduce the chance of transmission. Thank you so much Medicine Hat for your support over the 43 years!!! that REDI Bottle Depot has been around to help you refund your bottles and cans. We acknowledge that this is a dynamic environment in which things are changing rapidly. We may very well make additional changes to service levels should it be deemed appropriate or necessary, and will update again should things change.
