Here is my attempt at Grandmillenial Romantic style - a nod to flowers, and china, and pretty things. Enjoy the treasures and if anything catches your interest, please message me. I will be posting them to other sites tomorrow.
I subscribe to the weekly Salvation Army email newsblast because it notifies me of upcoming sales and special coupons. I wanted to share today's email because it contains an interesting story on a new trend that describes a lot of what I am about and what I like to share to this page. It was contributed by Erin Rochon of Erin Rochon Design. She writes about Grandmillennial style, a style that "has been a big design trend throughout 2020 and continues to be on the rise. It is ...a throwback to more of a classic, nostalgic, traditional style adding a modern twist. Moving away from the current minimalist to a maximalism aesthetic. A few of the elements found in this style are needle point pillows, fine china, florals, wicker, embroidered linens, classic wallpaper, ruffles, pleated lampshades, antiques, vintage collections and textiles with lots of pattern and bold colour." In the next short while, I will be posting some items for sale in a Grandmillenial Romance theme, just in time for Valentine's day. Keep your eye on this page for delightful treasures! See more
SOLD. Just poking my head out of hibernation to see if anyone is ready for some bright and fun Pyrex bowls? Vintage Butterfly Gold complete set of nesting bowls - 401, 402 and 403. Near mint condition- only one small scratch that doesn’t even go through the paint on the 401 bowl, otherwise they look as if they have never been used.
It's time to reflect on the past year and share with you a few of my favourite furniture makeovers. It's been a busy and productive year, despite the pandemic. Thank you for your support and I look forward to bringing many more beautiful items to the marketplace in 2021.
Merry Christmas everyone! May you find peace and joy and love and grace this holiday season.
HOLIDAY DECORATING HINT #1: an easy way to change your wall decor is to cover pictures with a card. I got this set of 3 cards for $3.99 each at Homesense this year and they were the perfect size for the frames shown here. I used dollar store two-sided tape to attach the card to the outside glass (no need to take the old pictures out of the frame this way). I also added a bit of tape to the inside of the card so it wouldn’t swing open. You could also do this with old Christmas cards or holiday themed card stock. For under $20 I have new artwork that can be easily changed back to the original after Christmas.
The Christmas countdown begins with Mid Century Modern kitch for your holiday entertaining or as gifts for those who love all things retro! Please message me if you are interested in anything. I will be posting these items on other sites tomorrow so don't delay as you are getting first chance!
Oh my! Look at all those treasures! Agnes I can’t wait to see it all in person!
Posting for a neighbour who has a lovely antique sofa for sale. Price is $250. Height is 33 inches tall x 30 inches deep x 80 inches wide. Message me if you are interested and I will connect you to the seller. I love the curves that are not too fussy - I'm seeing a navy velvet upholstery on this to add drama and sophistication.
Let’s talk furniture refinishing/refabbing for a bit today. I don’t usually work on Sunday but these pieces are for me and it is the perfect day to be doing some sanding outdoors (what a blessing!). A lot of people ask the question as to whether or not you should sand furniture before painting it and I’ll say yes!yes!yes! Even if it’s just a simple sand scuffing (a light sanding not meant to remove all the paint), I have found that a bit of work at the front end saves time at... the end. Take for example this small book shelf. What you may not see from the photo is the layers of dirt and grime and a very messy application of varnish. Do you want that to be the base to apply paint? Nay! Nay! I say! A few minutes with a sander (I used 120 grit to reduce the gouging of the wood) and voila! See the beautiful wood underneath? At this point I can either paint it or hemp oil the wood. Now, the second piece is an Andrew Malcolm nightstand I will be using for my spare bedroom. I have two of them, and I couldn’t believe my luck when I found them available at an estate sale. I think most people were scared off by the varnish alligatoring on the top of the nightstands. Again, sanding comes to the rescue and reveals a beautiful cherry wood underneath with little effort. Now I have the option to paint or hemp oil. I’ve wet the top of the nightstand with water to show you what hemp oil will do to restore the wood. However, the colour is a bit orange for me and I think I will be using a grey wax or white wash to tone down the colour. I’m going for a French Brocante in that room so it will be a lot of grey tones. Unless you want a really rustic finish, I say sanding is a must before you paint, stain or wax. See more
All I want for Christmas... well the fun begins today with a what is old is new again post. The first picture on the left is what I spotted at Winner’s/Homesense this week. Looks very similar to the two vintage dishes I have for sale. Price for the vintage holly dishes is $5 each. Winner’s price was $8.99 plus tax. Please message if you are interested in purchasing the vintage holly ceramics.
