Some of us were just born to play farm in the bathroom. I would go help my father with chores most mornings. Paying close attention to what he was up too. Fixing fence, feeding cows, calving. I couldn’t wait to get home and repeat his actions on this small scale farm set my uncle built me. There was a period in my life I would have never imagined that I would be a farmer. Looking back how could I be anything but.

Winter is upon us.

All our animals start with 14 days of dry aging. Uncle Callum starts butchering on the third week and leaves the primals to hang that week. Leaving 21 days dry aged on all our steak to insure maximum flavour and tenderness! #grassfedbeef

The short tailed weasel is normally a elusive creature. One of our smaller mammal predators. Don’t let their size fool you they are agile, athletic, and a fierce killer. I love having them around for rodent control but god help you if they get into the chicken coop. This younger one was so curious about me today. At one point he was only a few feet away. Also blown away with evolution and how many of our northern species that endure the winter here change colour with the seasons.
