So awesome to see countries around the globe taking these huge steps towards protecting the planet! Ones Carbon footprint is a component of their ecological footprint as well so it will be interesting to see how Costa Ricas new policies positively affect the nations ecological footprint. Way to go Costa Rica!!!!! Countries like the United States which has one of the highest Carbon emissions can learn a thing or two from Costa Rica! #costarica #plasticfree #protecttheenvironment #protectourresources #earth #saveourplanet #ecofriendly #ecologicalfootprint

Our planet is capable of countless magnificent things but if we continue treating it the way we are doing right now there will soon be no Earth to call home. Perhaps not for you but for your children and their children and all of the future generations to come. Its time for all of us to take a step back and re-evaluate the things we can do differently in our lives and the actions that we can take in order to reduce our ecological footprints because the Earth cannot sustain t...he ones we have right now. Many believe that they cannot do anything and create a massive positive impact simply because they are an average citizen and not a leader of some grand company however, that is not true. If you want to do something big, do it. Write a letter to your local leaders, volunteer for an organization dedicated towards protecting our planet and most importantly get those around you involved. Teamwork is power, caring is power, and having knowledge is power! #saveourearth #actnow #saveourfuture #forthefuture #ecologicalfootprint #protectourresources

According to an organization called "Rainforest Partnership" rainforests in Brazil alone have 24-25 MILLION hectares used for soy crops, 80% of which is eaten by animals. One component of an ecological footprint is the amount of land needed to support ones lifestyle and the fact that something as simple as our meat consumption is causing massive cases of deforestation for the sole purpose of growing animal feed and having grazing land is truly eye-opening. #deforestation #sustainbleliving #protectourresources #ecoligicalfootprint #sustainability #actnow #saveourrainforests #saveourtrees #eatlessmeat

I just found out about this program! Crayola has launched a program called "Colour Cycle" in which ANY BRAND of plastic markers can be sent to Crayola to be recycled so they dont end up in landfills! This is a great way to reduce your ecological footprints as a community. Unfortunately, this program is only available in the US and in certain areas in Canada. So if you can, start up a program at your school! #colorcyle #plasticmarkers #reducereuserecycle #recycle #crayola #ecofriendly #landfills #savetheearth #protectourresources

Just some interesting facts on how water is being wasted worldwide. Hopefully this type of information reminds us all to do what we can to reduce our water usage. We may not see it directly but so many parts of our lifestyles such as our diet (according to data collected by the Pacific Institute and the National Geographic, it takes 53 GALLONS of water to produce 1 EGG) take up so much water and contaminate it as well. And just a reminder: water consumption is a part of your ecological footprint! #saveourwater #saveouranimals #sabeourplants #uselesswater #wastelesswater #protectourplanet #protectourresources #ecologicalfootprint #saveourplanet

One great way to reduce your ecological footprints is using renewable energy! Some examples of renewable energy is tidal power, wind power and solar power! Its important to do research on each type and evaluate the pros and cons in order to decide which source of energy would be best for the environment that you live in. But they all one thing in common....they will never run out! #thinkgreen #greenenergy #renewableenergy #sustainable #sustainability #ecofriendly #protectourresources #saveourearth

How awesome is this? Just a simple action like purchasing a glass floss container or a reusable water bottle helps reduce your plastic use by so much! I hope this image encourages you all to follow these product swaps and reduce your ecological footprints! I mean just think of all the carbon emissions, the land and water used to produce plastic and the ecosystems that are harmed when plastic is not properly disposed of! Lets make these changes! #bethechange #productswap #nomoreplastic #uselessplastic #protectourresources #protectouranimals #ecologicalfootprint #protecttheenvironment #savetheearth #itstime #sustainable #2019

Awesome! Way to go Portugal! According to Waste Reduction Week in Canada, over 8 million metric tonnes of plastic is released into the Earths oceans EVERY YEAR. This harms many aquatic ecosystems as wildlife may ingest the plastic unknowingly. Now you might ask "what does plastic have to do with my ecological footprint?" Well, plastic manufacturing releases carbon dioxide thus increasing your carbon footprint which is a component of your ecological footprint. Infact, accordi...ng to an organization called Time for Change, 6 kg of CO2 is produced PER kg of plastic! Its time more countries adopt policies like Portugal and work towards reducing their plastic use! #plastic #plastocpollution #carbonfootprint #ecologicalfootprint #takeaction #2019 #canada #plasticfree #reducereuserecycle #uselessplastic #saveourearth #protecttheenvironment #greenhousegases #saveourresources #protectourwildlife #saveourplanet #carbondioxide #oceanpollution See more

What??!! This is AMAZING!! Did you know that in Canada only 11% of plastic is recycled and on average Canadians throw away 57 million straws EVERYDAY? We need to change that! Please if you are using plastic straws be sure to recycle them and better yet buy yourself some reusable metal straws! Plastic is not biodegradable and can be ingested by animals if not properly disposed of. Please spread the word!! #biodegradable #metalstraws #plasticpollution #plastic #plasticstraws #nomorestraws #ecologicalfootprint #recyle #environment #protectourwildlife #biodiversity #takeaction #startnow #makeachange #protecttheenvironment #protectouranimals #england #recycleplastic #saveourearth #canada #2019 #cnn #canadians #protectourresources #letsdothis #spreadtheword #climatechange #littering #nomorelitter

Its crazy to think about all of the resources we deplete as part of our lifestyles. Just think about all of the different processes a simple product like a plastic straw had to go through from manufacturing to packaging all the way to transportation. All of these steps take up the Earths limited resources and while we may not directly see this, the effect is still there and our ecological footprints will only continue to grow so long as we have these kinds of habits. This ...is why it is so important that we all make an effort to reduce, reuse and recycle. This is a simple concept Im sure weve all learned in elementary school yet many of us forget to practice the 3 Rs in our lives and the landfills continue being filled up, negatively impacting many ecosystems. Lets change that! Take action now and practice your 3 Rs!! #reducereuserecycle #recyle #landfills #environment #ecologicalfootprint #environment #sustainableliving #takeaction #startnow #makeachange #nomoreplastic #sustainability #savetheearth #saveourresources #ecosystems #protecttheenvironment #reuse #buylessthings #recyclingcentre

There are so many different environmental issues and concerns surrounding the meat industry. From climate change to deforestation all the way to habitat loss there are SO MANY problems associated with this sector. Making environmentally friendly lifestyle changes like taking colder and shorter showers or even using public transportation is awesome but reducing your meat consumption can have a HUGE IMPACT. Its important we protect our resources as cattle grazing uses up a lot... of them including our water, land and trees! Lets change that and reduce our ecological footprints as well!!! #ecofriendly #ecologicalfootprint #meatindustry #foodindustry #cattlegrazing #cow #food #methane #climatechange #greenhousegases #ecoliving #sustainable #sustainability #savetheearth #protecttheearth #saveourresources #meat #deforestation #habitatloss #environment #takeaction #bethechange #vegan #vegetarian #eatlessmeat #meatalternative #2019 #meatfreemonday #startnow See more

In honour of #endangeredspeciesday I wanted to share this amazing comic by @justcomics_official which shows that ANYONE no matter where you are in the world, what your age is, your background and the resources you have access to can MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Poaching is one of the main causes of species extinction. Overfishing, contaminating water, and being drowned as bycatch are just some of the many ways aquatic life such as the endangered Hawksbill Turtle are suffering and facin...g the risk of becoming extinct. Its important that we do our part in helping protect wildlife and biodiversity. This can include anything such as writing letters to your local leaders and sharing with them your ideas on conservation strategies. #saveourspecies #takeaction #endangeredspecies #hawksbillturtle #ecofriendly #sustainableliving #sustainability #protecttheenvironment #poaching #overfishing #protecttheearth #biodiversity #writeletters #makeadifference #comics #wecandoit #environment #earth #habitatloss #humanactivity #wildlife #protectouranimals

Now that summer is approaching try visiting your local farmers market and purchase some organic produce! Not only do they taste delicious but this is a great way to support your local farmers! Additionally, food imported from other countries must travel very long distances and that process emits a lot of greenhouse gases. This is a simple action but it still makes a difference! #farmersmarket #food #saveourresources #saveourplanet #ecoligicalfootprint #greenhousegases #organicfood #localfarmers #sustainableliving #healthyfood #ecofriendly #protecttheenvironment #planetearth

Here are some easy and cheap ways we can reduce our ecological footprints and help save the planet! Many argue that adopting a more eco-friendly lifestyle only means eating organic food, purchasing energy efficient appliances and other actions that can be quite expensive however thats not true! Taking the effort to do things like taking shorter and cold showers and making vegan meals are great cost efficient ways to decrease the amount of Earths resources and strain your lifestyle has on the planet. Its important to keep in mind that Earth has a certain capacity and can only take so much so it is super important that we think about SUSTAINABILITY for future generations!!!!

I just came across this ad on the train on my way back from school. Its a great reminder for all of us to go to our local recycling centres and drop of any electronic appliances that we dont use anymore. Normally, these products are taken to the landfills in which toxic substances like lead may be released into the environment and this can negatively affect water systems and wildlife that consume contaminated water and food. So dont forget to head to your local recycling centre! Always practice the 3 Rs (REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE)! This is also a great way to reduce your ecological footprint and protect our planets limited resources. Its important that we start adapting habits like this so our planet remains healthy for future generations!
