With less than a week to go in the campaign I have now had the chance to knock on thousands of doors. One of the benefits of this task - I have also had the pleasure of many conversations with Ward 4 residents. Some of these conversations were short, some more in depth, but I appreciate and value each one. I find these conversations really inspiring. I want to sincerely thank all of these people for their time, and for being engaged in our community. Campaigning and knockin...g on doors really helped me to understand the big and small needs of the community in the last term of Council. It guided me and focused my efforts throughout the term. This latest input will do the same for me during the new term of council. At the door I heard about the bigger more obvious issues like traffic and taxes and concerns around managing growth in our community. I also heard about some smaller things like concerns with a street tree in front of a home, a desire for a new recreation program, or the maintenance of a favorite park. Big or small all of these issues are important. I also heard, in almost all conversations, was the pride that we all share in our community, and a desire for Richmond Hill to be the best we can be. I wanted to be a councilor initially to be a part of positive change in Richmond Hill. After spending so much time speaking to my fellow residents and neighbours I am even more passionately committed to this task. We have a great community and I believe we can be even better in the future. We have some big decisions to be made over the next four years in Richmond Hill and we need strong, experienced, and courageous servant leaders on council to make these decisions on the community’s behalf. On Monday October 22nd citizens will have their say in how we proceed to our future. I would urge each and every citizen to research the candidates (School Board trustee, Mayor, Ward Councilor, and 2 Regional Councillors) and then get out to vote.

Richmond Hill is at a crossroad in its evolution from small town to a more urban place. The positive decisions we make today will have a positive impact on our future. There is a lot at stake. There will be many difficult choices that will need to be made in the coming years and we need to make these choices with full and honest input from residents. It will require strong and experienced leadership. I believe I have demonstrated this leadership and commitment to Richmond Hil...l Ward 4 over the past 5 years. I fully realize there is always more that needs to be done. I am proud of what we have accomplished, but I am excited to help build on these accomplishments. I would invite you to view my detailed election platform at http://votedavidwest.ca/what-does-david-west-stand-for-my-/ Please feel free to share this with friends. On October 22nd I hope I have earned your vote and support.

Dr. Laurence Packer spoke yesterday at the Richmond Hill Theatre about the importance of Bees. This was a part of the Richmond Hill Speaker Series put on by Marj Andre, Mary Kot and the RH Theatre. It was a real pleasure to be asked to Thank Dr. Packer and have a chance to speak to the audience about all that our Town is doing around saving Bees and the recently announced Bee City designation that Richmond Hill earned. I was also very proud to speak about all the great work that we are also doing around enhancing our environment in Richmond Hill, including our Environment Strategy called Greening the Hill. This policy document outlines our commitment to the natural environment in great detail.

It was an honour to be asked to speak to the Connecting the Community Group this week. For those that are not familiar with Connecting the Community - it is a group of fellow citizens that get together to network, talk about community issues and ultimately make our community better. All of the attendees have a shared passion for Richmond Hill. Below is the video from this talk. In the video I talk about why I want to be re elected for Ward 4 Councillor, why I put my name forward 5 years ago and what inspires me today. I was also asked to talk about my views on Heritage Preservation at the end of the video. Please share with your friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7NngARu-Y4&t=1s
