HIGH SCHOOL Art Showcase focused on the spirit of Orwell! NOW on at Metro Hall in Toronto If you are in Toronto, Please visit an ongoing Art Showcase focused on the spirit of Orwell! Five Toronto classrooms are showcasing their art in honor of the Holodomor, Stalin's genocide-famine that killed millions of Ukrainians in 1932-1933, and the urgent human rights crisis in Ukraine today. This important human rights art exhibit will be up for 5 days in Metro Hall from May 31 to Ju...ne 4th and is open to the public. (2 MORE DAYS TO GO!). The participating schools are St. Basil-the-Great College School, Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School, and Michael Power/St. Joseph High School. For more information visit www.orwellart.org Orwell Art raises awareness of the Holodomor by bringing the headlines of the current crisis in Ukraine into classrooms and providing historical context by teaching the book Orwell and The Refugees: The Untold Story of Animal Farm. Orwell Art is unit of study developed by Toronto high school teacher and community leader Nadia Guerrera to teach about the fragility of democracy and the role of civic engagement in safeguarding it around the world. Orwell Art raises awareness of the Holodomor by bringing the headlines of the current crisis in Ukraine into classrooms and providing historical context by teaching the book Orwell and The Refugees: The Untold Story of Animal Farm by Andrea Chalupa. The program connects Toronto classrooms with classrooms in Kyiv through our partner the Transnational Education Group, bringing Canadian and Ukrainians students together over Skype to discuss global affairs in the context of Orwell's Animal Farm and 20th century history.
